17	17	HR____ COMMENDING DEREK L. SMITH ON HIS YEARS OF SERVICE AS
18	18	A PASTOR.
19	19	WHEREAS, the Alabama House of Representatives takes
20	20	great pride in recognizing individuals who consistently
21	21	exhibit inspiring qualities that help the progress of this
22	22	great state; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Pastor Derek L. Smith is a native of
24	24	Brooklyn, New York, born February 23, 1981, to the parents
25	25	of Riley and Gwendolyn Smith; he then moved to Montgomery,
26	26	Alabama, with his grandmother at the age of 13 and has been
27	27	a resident from then until present; he began his ministry at
28	28	the age of six in Brooklyn, New York, at the New Jerusalem
29	29	Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Alonzo
30	30	Smith; and
31	31	WHEREAS, upon moving to Alabama he became a faithful
32	32	member, at the age of 13, of the Galilee Missionary Baptist
33	33	Church and then furthered his ministry and was licensed to
34	34	preach the gospel under the leadership of Pastor Preston
35	35	Crittiden; Pastor Smith was also ordained to preach the
36	36	gospel at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church at the age
37	37	of 18 under the leadership of Dr. Lamard Raven; after which
38	38	he was called to his first church Zion Hope in Jacksonville,
39	39	Florida, on a three-year tenure; and
40	40	WHEREAS, at the age of 21, Pastor Smith returned back

70	70	WHEREAS, at the age of 21, Pastor Smith returned back
71	71	home to Alabama and pastored the First Baptist Church of
72	72	Elmore in Elmore County, Alabama; he later became the pastor
73	73	of First Baptist Church in Tallassee, Alabama, for eight
74	74	years; and
75	75	WHEREAS, he is now the proud and esteemed pastor of
76	76	Macedonia Baptist Church in Prattville, Alabama, where he
77	77	has been serving for five years and counting; Pastor Smith's
78	78	motto is, "Bible readers, Bible believers, and Bible doers
79	79	make a strong Christian, and it takes a strong Christian to
80	80	have a strong church"; now therefore,
81	81	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
82	82	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Pastor Derek L. Smith is highly
83	83	commended and praised on his years of dedicated service as a
84	84	pastor in the states of New York, Florida, and Alabama, and
85	85	best wishes are extended to him for continued prosperity and
86	86	success.
