1515 HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF MABLE
1616 ZINNERMAN POINDEXTER.
1717 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
1818 death of Mable Zinnerman "June" Poindexter on April 16,
1919 2025, at the age of 88; her departure leaves a void in the
2020 lives of her loving family, many friends, and the community
2121 where she was highly regarded; and
2222 WHEREAS, born on August 22, 1936, June gained a love
2323 for people early in life; living with her grandmother, Mable
2424 Holley Jonson, and being the only girl in a small country
2525 neighborhood, she was treated as everybody's little girl and
2626 was reared to obey and respect her elders; and
2727 WHEREAS, during her childhood, she became active in
2828 the church, Sunday school, and the 4-H Club, where she won
2929 many awards for cooking and home making; and
3030 WHEREAS, after elementary and junior high school,
3131 June went to Lynch, Kentucky, to live with her aunt,
3232 Katherine Childs; after graduating high school, she entered
3333 Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, majoring in
3434 Secretary Studies with a minor in Business Administration;
3535 and
3636 WHEREAS, during her years at Stillman College, she
3737 worked in the cafeteria and was the secretary of the
3838 Athletic Department for two years; she was an active member

6868 Athletic Department for two years; she was an active member
6969 of the Stewardship Committee, a Christian organization that
7070 worked closely with patients from Bryce and Partlow
7171 Hospitals; she also served as a dorm counselor and member of
7272 the Stillman Band and Choir; and
7373 WHEREAS, upon graduating from Stillman College in
7474 1957, June moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she worked as a
7575 Secretary and Clerk for Great Lakes Mutual Insurance
7676 Company; after a year and a half dealing with the brutal
7777 winters, she moved back to Alabama and accepted a job at
7878 WENN radio station in Birmingham as a secretary; she made
7979 many friends there, and her name became known throughout
8080 Birmingham, thanks to the disc jockeys; and
8181 WHEREAS, in 1962, June wanted to join McDowell
8282 Presbyterian Church in Pratt City but was unable to find its
8383 location, so she stopped at Grace Chapel, where she found a
8484 church family and made invaluable friends and gained wisdom;
8585 and
8686 WHEREAS, in 1963, June married James E. Poindexter,
8787 and they had two daughters, Cynthia Renee' and Carmelita
8888 Joyce; now therefore,
8989 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9090 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mable Zinnerman
9191 "June" Poindexter is recorded with deep sadness, and this
9292 resolution is offered to her family in tribute to her life
9393 and with heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones whose grief is
9494 shared by many.
