17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the |
---|
18 | 18 | | death of Mable Zinnerman "June" Poindexter on April 16, |
---|
19 | 19 | | 2025, at the age of 88; her departure leaves a void in the |
---|
20 | 20 | | lives of her loving family, many friends, and the community |
---|
21 | 21 | | where she was highly regarded; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, born on August 22, 1936, June gained a love |
---|
23 | 23 | | for people early in life; living with her grandmother, Mable |
---|
24 | 24 | | Holley Jonson, and being the only girl in a small country |
---|
25 | 25 | | neighborhood, she was treated as everybody's little girl and |
---|
26 | 26 | | was reared to obey and respect her elders; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, during her childhood, she became active in |
---|
28 | 28 | | the church, Sunday school, and the 4-H Club, where she won |
---|
29 | 29 | | many awards for cooking and home making; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, after elementary and junior high school, |
---|
31 | 31 | | June went to Lynch, Kentucky, to live with her aunt, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Katherine Childs; after graduating high school, she entered |
---|
33 | 33 | | Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, majoring in |
---|
34 | 34 | | Secretary Studies with a minor in Business Administration; |
---|
35 | 35 | | and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, during her years at Stillman College, she |
---|
37 | 37 | | worked in the cafeteria and was the secretary of the |
---|
38 | 38 | | Athletic Department for two years; she was an active member |

74 | 74 | | 1957, June moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she worked as a |

75 | 75 | | Secretary and Clerk for Great Lakes Mutual Insurance |

76 | 76 | | Company; after a year and a half dealing with the brutal |
---|
77 | 77 | | winters, she moved back to Alabama and accepted a job at |
---|
78 | 78 | | WENN radio station in Birmingham as a secretary; she made |
---|
79 | 79 | | many friends there, and her name became known throughout |
---|
80 | 80 | | Birmingham, thanks to the disc jockeys; and |
---|
81 | 81 | | WHEREAS, in 1962, June wanted to join McDowell |
---|
82 | 82 | | Presbyterian Church in Pratt City but was unable to find its |
---|
83 | 83 | | location, so she stopped at Grace Chapel, where she found a |
---|
84 | 84 | | church family and made invaluable friends and gained wisdom; |
---|
85 | 85 | | and |

86 | 86 | | WHEREAS, in 1963, June married James E. Poindexter, |
---|
87 | 87 | | and they had two daughters, Cynthia Renee' and Carmelita |
---|
88 | 88 | | Joyce; now therefore, |

89 | 89 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
---|
90 | 90 | | LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mable Zinnerman |
---|
91 | 91 | | "June" Poindexter is recorded with deep sadness, and this |
---|
92 | 92 | | resolution is offered to her family in tribute to her life |
---|
93 | 93 | | and with heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones whose grief is |
---|
