HR___ RECOGNIZING JOSIAH BENSON FOR HIS OUTSTANDING MUSICAL
THEATER ACHIEVEMENTS.
WHEREAS, the Alabama House of Representatives values
and celebrates the achievements of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Josiah Benson, son of Dedrick and Felicia
Benson, has been engaged in musical theater since the age of
10; and
WHEREAS, Josiah, a previous student of Helena Middle
School, in 2022, received two Outstanding Student Awards in
English and Choir, became an A-honor roll student, peer
helper, and choir member; and
WHEREAS, he played the role of "Sebastian" in Little
Mermaid Disney Jr. at the Virginia Samford Theater from July
through August 2021; he also played the role of "Captain" in
Little Madagascar Jr. from October through November 2022; at
the Jefferson County Academy of Theater and Dance , he played
"Gavroche" from May through June 2023 with the high school
students at Shades Valley High School; and
WHEREAS, Josiah has recently been traveling on the
1st National Tour playing the lead role of "Little Michael
Jackson" in the Broadway show called "MJ the Musical"; when
needed, he also played the role "Little Marlon Jackson"; and
WHEREAS, Josiah has performed in over 300 shows to an
audience of now over 1.2 million since August 2023 and is a

audience of now over 1.2 million since August 2023 and is a
proud member of the Actors' Equity Association; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Alabama House of
Representatives does hereby recognize and honor Josiah
Benson for his musical theater accomplishments.
