1515 HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF ROLAND
1616 MIXON, SR.
1717 WHEREAS, it is with deep sadness that we note the
1818 death of Roland Mixon, Sr. on February 3, 2025, at the age
1919 of 84; his passing leaves a void in the lives of his loving
2020 family, many friends, and the community, where he was highly
2121 regarded; and
2222 WHEREAS, Roland Mixon was born on February 10, 1940,
2323 in Birmingham, to the union of Essie Mae and Robuster Mixon;
2424 he graduated from Westfield High School in 1959, and
2525 embarked on a life filled with dedication and hard work; and
2626 WHEREAS, Roland Mixon accepted Christ at an early age
2727 and remained a devoted member of First Missionary Baptist
2828 Church in Hueytown throughout his life; his service to the
2929 church was unwavering, and he faithfully served as a Deacon,
3030 Bass Choir Member, Clothes Closet Member, Evangelism
3131 Ministry Member, and Sunday School Teacher; and
3232 WHEREAS, he was blessed to marry the love of his
3333 life, Eunice Fay Watkins, on April 11, 1959, and together
3434 they built a loving family, welcoming four children: Janice,
3535 Alesia, Roland, Jr., and Kendra; and
3636 WHEREAS, Roland Mixon was known to be a diligent and
3737 devoted employeee; he worked at Hillman Hospital, U.S.
3838 Pipeshop, Concord Mines, and ultimately at Oak Grove Mine,

6868 Pipeshop, Concord Mines, and ultimately at Oak Grove Mine,
6969 where he dedicated over 30 years as a coal miner; his strong
7070 work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were
7171 evident in all that he did; and
7272 WHEREAS, Roland Mixon was preceded in death by his
7373 parents; sister, Annie Ruth Mixon Brown; grandmother,
7474 Mahalia Scott; aunt, Willie Scott Woods; and nephew, Kerry
7575 Mixon, Sr.; and
7676 WHEREAS, he is survived by his loving and cherished
7777 wife of 65 years, Eunice Fay Mixon; children, Janice Towns
7878 (Gregory), Alesia Leggett (Robert), Roland "Mickey" Mixon,
7979 Jr. (Venice), and Kendra Mixon; 11 grandchildren; 11
8080 great-grandchildren; and a host of other much-loved and
8181 devoted close family members and friends; and
8282 WHEREAS, Roland Mixon lived a life of faith, service,
8383 and love; he leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
8484 the passage of time and remain as a comforting memory to all
8585 who were privileged to have known and loved him; now
8686 therefore,
8787 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8888 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Roland Mixon, Sr.
8989 is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is
9090 offered in tribute to his life and legacy, along with
9191 heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared by
9292 many.
