17	17	HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH OF DONNIE JEFFREY.
18	18	WHEREAS, with an overwhelming sense of loss, we mourn
19	19	the death, yet celebrate the life, of Dr. Donnie Jeffrey of
20	20	Troy, Alabama, whose passing on January 28, 2025, at the age
21	21	of 78 years has left a void in the lives of his family and
22	22	friends; and
23	23	WHEREAS, born on November 11, 1946, in Oakland,
24	24	California, to Wondell Jeffrey and Mae Price Jeffrey, Donnie
25	25	Jeffrey grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia, alongside his five
26	26	brothers and one sister; on August 25, 1967, he married
27	27	Betty Jane Griggs, beginning a loving partnership that
28	28	spanned over five decades; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Dr. Jeffrey devoted his life to education
30	30	and service; he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from
31	31	Troy University, a Master of Science Degree from the
32	32	University of Tennessee, and a Doctor of Philosophy from
33	33	Florida State University; in addition to his academic
34	34	career, he served honorably in the United States Army for 22
35	35	years, including tours during Desert Shield and Desert
36	36	Storm; and
37	37	WHEREAS, in 1975, Dr. Jeffrey began teaching at
38	38	Samson High School before joining Troy University in Troy,
39	39	Alabama; over an extraordinary 46-year career at Troy
40	40	University, he became a beloved educator, coach, and leader

70	70	University, he became a beloved educator, coach, and leader
71	71	who profoundly impacted the lives of countless students and
72	72	colleagues; and
73	73	WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents and
74	74	oldest brother, Ronnie; and
75	75	WHEREAS, Dr. Jeffrey is survived by his devoted wife,
76	76	Betty; children, James (Barbara), Chris (Jennifer), and
77	77	Rebecca; grandchildren, Danielle, Christopher, Grayson,
78	78	Brooke, Kayla, and Logan; five great-grandchildren;
79	79	siblings, Vay, Ralph, Bart, Cathy, and Dean; and numerous
80	80	nieces and nephews ; and
81	81	WHEREAS, a valued member of the community and loved
82	82	by many, his passion for life will be remembered fondly; we
83	83	join with others to celebrate his life and to mourn his
84	84	death; although his presence will be greatly missed, his
85	85	memory will be cherished in the hearts and minds of those
86	86	who were fortunate to know him; now therefore,
87	87	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
88	88	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Dr. Donnie Jeffrey
89	89	is recorded with deep sadness, and even as we mourn his
90	90	death and the loss it represents, we also celebrate his
91	91	life; this resolution is offered in highest tribute, along
92	92	with heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared
93	93	by many.
