1717 HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH OF DONNIE JEFFREY.
1818 WHEREAS, with an overwhelming sense of loss, we mourn
1919 the death, yet celebrate the life, of Dr. Donnie Jeffrey of
2020 Troy, Alabama, whose passing on January 28, 2025, at the age
2121 of 78 years has left a void in the lives of his family and
2222 friends; and
2323 WHEREAS, born on November 11, 1946, in Oakland,
2424 California, to Wondell Jeffrey and Mae Price Jeffrey, Donnie
2525 Jeffrey grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia, alongside his five
2626 brothers and one sister; on August 25, 1967, he married
2727 Betty Jane Griggs, beginning a loving partnership that
2828 spanned over five decades; and
2929 WHEREAS, Dr. Jeffrey devoted his life to education
3030 and service; he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from
3131 Troy University, a Master of Science Degree from the
3232 University of Tennessee, and a Doctor of Philosophy from
3333 Florida State University; in addition to his academic
3434 career, he served honorably in the United States Army for 22
3535 years, including tours during Desert Shield and Desert
3636 Storm; and
3737 WHEREAS, in 1975, Dr. Jeffrey began teaching at
3838 Samson High School before joining Troy University in Troy,
3939 Alabama; over an extraordinary 46-year career at Troy
4040 University, he became a beloved educator, coach, and leader

7070 University, he became a beloved educator, coach, and leader
7171 who profoundly impacted the lives of countless students and
7272 colleagues; and
7373 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents and
7474 oldest brother, Ronnie; and
7575 WHEREAS, Dr. Jeffrey is survived by his devoted wife,
7676 Betty; children, James (Barbara), Chris (Jennifer), and
7777 Rebecca; grandchildren, Danielle, Christopher, Grayson,
7878 Brooke, Kayla, and Logan; five great-grandchildren;
7979 siblings, Vay, Ralph, Bart, Cathy, and Dean; and numerous
8080 nieces and nephews ; and
8181 WHEREAS, a valued member of the community and loved
8282 by many, his passion for life will be remembered fondly; we
8383 join with others to celebrate his life and to mourn his
8484 death; although his presence will be greatly missed, his
8585 memory will be cherished in the hearts and minds of those
8686 who were fortunate to know him; now therefore,
8787 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8888 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Dr. Donnie Jeffrey
8989 is recorded with deep sadness, and even as we mourn his
9090 death and the loss it represents, we also celebrate his
9191 life; this resolution is offered in highest tribute, along
9292 with heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared
9393 by many.
