15	15	HR____ RECOGNIZING APRIL 17, 2025, AS BUCKETS OF SMILES DAY.
16	16	WHEREAS, childhood cancer is the leading cause of
17	17	death by disease in children, with one out of 285 children
18	18	in the United States being diagnosed by their 20th birthday;
19	19	and
20	20	WHEREAS, more than 190 children are diagnosed with
21	21	cancer annually in Alabama, and over 500 children in Alabama
22	22	undergo treatment each year; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Buckets of Smiles is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
24	24	organization that was founded by Ella Kate Nichols in 2017
25	25	with the mission to bring a smile to the face of every child
26	26	fighting cancer by providing hospital-approved activity
27	27	items to children in Alabama hospitals; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Buckets of Smiles has raised over $67,000 to
29	29	improve the lives of children and families affected by
30	30	cancer; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Buckets of Smiles has also created an
32	32	ambassador program to encourage youth throughout the United
33	33	States to become involved in helping others by making
34	34	deliveries to hospitals in their home states; and
35	35	WHEREAS, Buckets of Smiles has delivered over 1,588
36	36	buckets filled with activity items to children fighting
37	37	cancer across the nation; and
38	38	WHEREAS, Buckets of Smiles has established a college

68	68	WHEREAS, Buckets of Smiles has established a college
69	69	scholarship for childhood cancer survivors in the State of
70	70	Alabama; and
71	71	WHEREAS, Buckets of Smiles advocates for children
72	72	with cancer and their families, while fundraising for
73	73	research that seeks to provide better treatments with fewer
74	74	side effects and hopefully, one day, a cure; now therefore,
75	75	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
76	76	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That April 17, 2025, shall be known
77	77	as Buckets of Smiles Day in the State of Alabama, and the
78	78	residents of Alabama are encouraged to recognize this day
79	79	for its importance in spreading awareness regarding children
80	80	with cancer and the need for better treatment options with
81	81	fewer side affects.
