1515 HR____ HONORING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JAPAN AND THE STATE
1616 OF ALABAMA ON MARCH 4, 2025.
1717 WHEREAS, the State of Alabama and the Nation of Japan
1818 are established partners in the global economy, with mutual
1919 trade in 2022 between Alabama and Japan reaching nearly $2
2020 billion, including mineral fuel, aircraft, spacecraft,
2121 vehicles, wood pulp, paper, organic and inorganic chemicals,
2222 machinery, computers, vehicles, media equipment, ammunition,
2323 pharmaceuticals, and financial services; and
2424 WHEREAS, Japanese companies have invested over $20
2525 billion in Alabama, making Japan the number one foreign
2626 direct investor in the state; 20,000 jobs have been created
2727 in Alabama, including 8,100 jobs since 2018, by investment
2828 from Japanese companies, which include Honda Manufacturing
2929 of Alabama, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA, Incorporated,
3030 Protective Life, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama,
3131 Incorporated, Rheem Manufacturing Company, and Daikin
3232 America, Incorporated; and
3333 WHEREAS, in addition to being a regional ally, Japan
3434 is a key partner of the United States on the international
3535 stage, collaborating with our nation in many critical areas
3636 that include global security, development assistance,
3737 environmental protection, new energy technologies,
3838 supercomputing, critical materials, and space; and

6969 WHEREAS, students at Alabama universities and
7070 colleges have been enriched by visits to Japan for study,
7171 including students from Birmingham-Southern College, Samford
7272 University, University of West Alabama, The University of
7373 Alabama at Birmingham, The University of Alabama, Auburn
7474 University, The University of Alabama in Huntsville, Troy
7575 University, Talladega College, and Miles College; and
7676 WHEREAS, the people of Alabama and Japan have enjoyed
7777 rich and rewarding friendships and cultural exchange through
7878 sister-city relationships, including Birmingham-Hitachi,
7979 Anniston-Tatsuno, Tuscaloosa-Narachino, Dothan-Sakado,
8080 Mobile-Ichara, Montevallo-Echizen, and Birmingham-Maebashi;
8181 the Japanese Garden in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is
8282 recognized by the government of Japan as an official
8383 Japanese Cultural Center, and many Alabamians take a lively
8484 interest in Japanese culture through organizations such as
8585 Bonsai and garden societies, exhibitions, events such as the
8686 Sakura festival in Tuscaloosa, and the Japan-America Society
8787 of Alabama; now therefore,
8888 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8989 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That on this day, March 4, 2025, we
9090 hereby honor the long-lasting friendship between the State
9191 of Alabama, this body, and the nation of Japan.
