15	15	HR____ HONORING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JAPAN AND THE STATE
16	16	OF ALABAMA ON MARCH 4, 2025.
17	17	WHEREAS, the State of Alabama and the Nation of Japan
18	18	are established partners in the global economy, with mutual
19	19	trade in 2022 between Alabama and Japan reaching nearly $2
20	20	billion, including mineral fuel, aircraft, spacecraft,
21	21	vehicles, wood pulp, paper, organic and inorganic chemicals,
22	22	machinery, computers, vehicles, media equipment, ammunition,
23	23	pharmaceuticals, and financial services; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Japanese companies have invested over $20
25	25	billion in Alabama, making Japan the number one foreign
26	26	direct investor in the state; 20,000 jobs have been created
27	27	in Alabama, including 8,100 jobs since 2018, by investment
28	28	from Japanese companies, which include Honda Manufacturing
29	29	of Alabama, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA, Incorporated,
30	30	Protective Life, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama,
31	31	Incorporated, Rheem Manufacturing Company, and Daikin
32	32	America, Incorporated; and
33	33	WHEREAS, in addition to being a regional ally, Japan
34	34	is a key partner of the United States on the international
35	35	stage, collaborating with our nation in many critical areas
36	36	that include global security, development assistance,
37	37	environmental protection, new energy technologies,
38	38	supercomputing, critical materials, and space; and

69	69	WHEREAS, students at Alabama universities and
70	70	colleges have been enriched by visits to Japan for study,
71	71	including students from Birmingham-Southern College, Samford
72	72	University, University of West Alabama, The University of
73	73	Alabama at Birmingham, The University of Alabama, Auburn
74	74	University, The University of Alabama in Huntsville, Troy
75	75	University, Talladega College, and Miles College; and
76	76	WHEREAS, the people of Alabama and Japan have enjoyed
77	77	rich and rewarding friendships and cultural exchange through
78	78	sister-city relationships, including Birmingham-Hitachi,
79	79	Anniston-Tatsuno, Tuscaloosa-Narachino, Dothan-Sakado,
80	80	Mobile-Ichara, Montevallo-Echizen, and Birmingham-Maebashi;
81	81	the Japanese Garden in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is
82	82	recognized by the government of Japan as an official
83	83	Japanese Cultural Center, and many Alabamians take a lively
84	84	interest in Japanese culture through organizations such as
85	85	Bonsai and garden societies, exhibitions, events such as the
86	86	Sakura festival in Tuscaloosa, and the Japan-America Society
87	87	of Alabama; now therefore,
88	88	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
89	89	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That on this day, March 4, 2025, we
90	90	hereby honor the long-lasting friendship between the State
91	91	of Alabama, this body, and the nation of Japan.
