16		-	Relating to crimes and offenses; to amend Section
17		-	13A-10-11, Code of Alabama 1975, to include additional
18		-	activity that would constitute the crime of impersonating a
19		-	peace officer.
20		-	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
21		-	Section 1. Section 13A-10-11, Code of Alabama 1975, is
22		-	amended to read as follows:
23		-	"§13A-10-11
24		-	(a) A person commits the crime of impersonating a peace
25		-	officer if he or she does any of the following:
26		-	(1) falsely Falsely pretends to be a peace officer and
27		-	does any act in that capacity.
28		-	(2) Is employed as or otherwise accepts an appointment
29		-	as a peace officer either:
30		-	a. Knowing that he or she is not eligible to serve as a
31		-	peace officer under the laws of this state; or
32		-	b. Knowing that his or her certification with the
33		-	Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission has
34		-	been revoked or suspended.
35		-	(3) Employs, appoints, or otherwise facilitates a
36		-	person serving as a peace officer when he or she knows the
37		-	person is prohibited from serving as a peace officer under
38		-	subdivision (2).
39		-	(b) Impersonating a peace officer is a Class C felony.
40		-	(c) For the purposes of this section, "peace officer"
	15	+	SYNOPSIS:
	16	+	Under existing law, a person commits the crime
	17	+	of impersonating a peace officer if he or she falsely
	18	+	pretends to be a peace officer and does any act in that
	19	+	capacity.
	20	+	This bill would further provide that a person
	21	+	commits the crime of impersonating a peace officer if
	22	+	he or she is employed as or otherwise accepts an
	23	+	appointment either knowing that he or she is not
	24	+	eligible to serve as a peace officer under the laws of
	25	+	this state or knowing that his or her certification
	26	+	with the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training
	27	+	Commission has been revoked or suspended.
	28	+	This bill would further provide that a person
	29	+	commits the crime of impersonating a peace officer if
	30	+	he or she employs, appoints, or otherwise facilitates
	31	+	an individual serving as a peace officer when he or she
	32	+	knows that the individual is prohibited from serving as
	33	+	a peace officer.
