1515 SYNOPSIS:
1616 "Legal tender" is defined as coins and banknotes
1717 recognized by the United States Government.
1818 This bill would provide that refined gold and
1919 silver bullion, specie, or certain coins may be
2020 recognized as legal tender.

2424 Relating to legal tender; to provide that refined gold
2525 and silver bullion, specie, or coins shall be considered legal
2626 tender in the state.
2727 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2828 Section 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as
2929 the Alabama Legal Tender Act.
3030 Section 2. (a) Any refined gold or silver bullion,
3131 specie, or coin that has been stamped, marked, or imprinted
3232 with its weight and purity shall be recognized as legal tender
3333 in the State of Alabama.
3434 (b) No person shall be required to offer or accept any
3535 recognized legal tender as described in subsection (a) for
3636 payment of debts, deposit, or any other purpose, nor shall any
3737 person incur any liability for refusing to offer or accept
