18	18	Relating to Coffee County; to authorize the sheriff,
19	19	the county commission, and a municipality to contract for the
20	20	sheriff to provide police services for the municipality; and
21	21	to provide for the expenditure of funds.
22	22	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
23	23	Section 1. (a) Any municipality within Coffee County
24	24	may contract with the Sheriff of Coffee County for police
25	25	services. The contract may include enforcement by the sheriff,
26	26	or his or her duly commissioned deputies, of all laws within
27	27	the corporate limits and police jurisdiction of the
28	28	municipality, including municipal ordinances, and the arrest
29	29	or citation of any offenders as if the sheriff, or his or her
30	30	duly commissioned deputies, were duly constituted police
31	31	officers of the municipality.
32	32	(b) A municipality entering into a contract pursuant to
33	33	subsection (a) shall pay to the county treasury a sum
34	34	sufficient to provide the necessary manpower and equipment as
35	35	mutually agreed upon by the municipal governing body, the
36	36	sheriff, and the county commission.

67	67	(c) The county commission shall receive from the
68	68	municipality the funds paid under the contract for police
69	69	services and may expend funds for police services in the
70	70	municipality, including the police jurisdiction of the
71	71	municipality.
72	72	(d) Each contract between the sheriff and a
73	73	municipality shall be with the consent and approval of the
74	74	sheriff and the county commission.
75	75	(e) The sheriff and his or her duly commissioned
76	76	deputies, in the performance of any duties carried out
77	77	pursuant to a contract with a municipality, shall retain the
78	78	legal and constitutional immunity afforded to each of them by
79	79	law.
80	80	Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
