1919 AN ACT
2020 Relating to Jefferson County; to amend Section
2121 45-37-233, Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for pistol
2222 permits and pistol permit fees.
2323 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2424 Section 1. Section 45-37-233, Code of Alabama 1975, is
2525 amended to read as follows:
2626 "ยง45-37-233
2727 (a) This section shall be known as the Pistol Permit
2828 Reduction Act of 1999 for Jefferson County.
2929 (b) In Jefferson County, the total fee for issuance of
3030 a one-year permit to carry a pistol as provided by Section
3131 13A-11-75 shall be seven dollars and fifty cents ($7.50) per
3232 year. The fee shall be paid by the sheriff to the county
3333 treasurer, and the county treasurer shall distribute the seven
3434 dollars and fifty cents ($7.50) as follows:
3535 (1) Four dollars and fifty cents ($4.50) shall be
3636 distributed to the retirement system established by Article
3737 12.
3838 (2) Fifty cents ($.50) shall be distributed to the
3939 Jefferson County Sheriff's Fund.

6969 Jefferson County Sheriff's Fund.
7070 (3)a. Two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) shall be
7171 distributed to a fund in the county treasury designated the
7272 Jefferson County Legislative Delegation Office Fund to be
7373 further distributed as provided herein.
7474 b. Any amounts previously distributed and not expended
7575 pursuant to this subdivision shall be transferred to the fund.
7676 c. Any amounts in the fund over one hundred twenty
7777 thousand dollars ($120,000) on April 10, 2014, shall
7878 thereafter be distributed to the public school systems in the
7979 county to be used for the operation of the public schools,
8080 including, but not limited to, being used for school security,
8181 on a pro rata basis based on the number of school students in
8282 each school system, including the City of Gardendale School
8383 System, to the total number of students in the county based on
8484 enrollment numbers for the 2013-2014 school year as reported
8585 to the State Department of Education.
8686 d. Notwithstanding the distribution provided in the
8787 preceding sentence paragraph c., in the event the City of
8888 Gardendale School System has not been officially separated
8989 from the Jefferson County School System at the time of any
9090 distribution provided for therein, the portion of the funds
9191 that would have been distributed to the City of Gardendale
9292 School System based on the distribution formula provided
9393 therein shall be distributed to the City of Gardendale to be
9494 used only for the operation of the Gardendale School System
9595 upon separation.
9696 e. The remaining balance in the fund and any amounts
9797 accruing pursuant to this subdivision after the distribution

127127 accruing pursuant to this subdivision after the distribution
128128 provided in the preceding sentence paragraph d. or the portion
129129 needed thereof shall be spent for the operation of a
130130 legislative office located in Birmingham.
131131 (c) The total fee for issuance of a five-year permit to
132132 carry a pistol as provided by Section 13A-11-75 shall be
133133 thirty-seven dollars and fifty cents ($37.50). The fee shall
134134 be paid by the sheriff to the county treasurer and the county
135135 treasurer shall distribute the fee in the same proportions as
136136 provided in subsection (b). "
137137 Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
138138 1, 2025.
