16	16	This bill would propose an amendment to the
17	17	Constitution of Alabama of 2022, relating to Montgomery
18	18	County, to provide that members of the Montgomery
19	19	County Board of Education serve two-year terms.
20	20	A BILL
21	21	TO BE ENTITLED
22	22	AN ACT
23	23	To propose an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama
24	24	of 2022, relating to Montgomery County, to amend Section
25	25	51-5.00 of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, to further
26	26	provide for the terms of office of the Montgomery County Board
27	27	of Education.
28	28	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
29	29	Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution
30	30	of Alabama of 2022, is proposed:
31	31	PROPOSED AMENDMENT
32	32	Section 51-5.00 of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022,
33	33	is amended to read as follows:
34	34	"§51-5.00
35	35	As terms of office on the Montgomery County Board of
36	36	Education expire, new members shall be elected to the board

68	68	Upon ratification of this constitutional amendment, the
69	69	Code Commissioner shall number and place this amendment as
70	70	appropriate in the constitution omitting this instructional
71	71	paragraph and may make the following nonsubstantive revisions:
72	72	change capitalization, hierarchy, spelling, and punctuation
73	73	for purposes of style and uniformity; correct manifest
74	74	grammatical, clerical, and typographical errors; revise
75	75	internal or external citations and cross-references; harmonize
76	76	language; and translate effective dates.
77	77	END PROPOSED AMENDMENT
78	78	Section 2. An election upon the proposed amendment
79	79	shall be held in accordance with Sections 284, 284.01, and 285
80	80	of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, and the election laws
81	81	of this state. The appropriate election official shall assign
82	82	a ballot number for the proposed constitutional amendment on
83	83	the election ballot and shall set forth the following
84	84	description of the substance or subject matter of the proposed
85	85	constitutional amendment:
86	86	"Relating to Montgomery County, proposing an amendment
87	87	to the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, to provide that
88	88	members of the Montgomery County Board of Education serve
89	89	two-year terms.
90	90	Proposed by Act ____."
91	91	This description shall be followed by the following
92	92	language:
93	93	"Yes( ) No( )."
94	94	Section 3. The proposed amendment shall become valid as

125	125	part of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, when approved by
126	126	a majority of the qualified electors voting thereon.
