SYNOPSIS:
This bill would authorize the Legislative
Council to contract for the demolition of the existing
building designated as the Alabama State House, upon
the completion of the new Alabama State House, and to
provide for the disposition of property and materials
that are attached or affixed to the building.
This bill would also authorize the Clerk of the
House of Representatives and Secretary of the Senate to
sell chairs, desks, and other items from the respective
chambers which will not be relocated to the new Alabama
State House. 
A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to the Legislature; to authorize the
Legislative Council to contract for the demolition of the
building designated as the current Alabama State House, upon
completion of the new Alabama State House; to provide for the
disposition of certain property and materials affixed to the
building; and to provide for the sale of items in the chambers
that will not be relocated to the new Alabama State House.

that will not be relocated to the new Alabama State House.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) The Legislative Council may contract for
the demolition of the building located at 11 South Union
Street in Montgomery. The demolition shall occur upon the
completion of construction and designation of a new Alabama
State House.
(b)(1) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the
building may be demolished in a manner that provides for the
removal and disposition of any property or materials that are
part of or affixed to the building which may have some value,
regardless of whether any of the property or materials are
listed as state inventory. To effectuate this section, the
Legislative Council, Legislative Services Agency, Clerk of the
House of Representatives, and Secretary of the Senate shall
provide to the State Auditor a list of property and materials
to be removed from the inventory. Upon receipt of the list,
the State Auditor shall remove the property and materials from
the inventory.  
(2) The property and materials described in subdivision
(1) may be reused, recycled, upcycled, sold, or disposed of,
as determined by the Legislative Council in a manner that is
fiscally responsible. Materials of de minimis value may be
utilized as the Legislative Council, Clerk of the House of
Representatives, and Secretary of the Senate deem appropriate
to commemorate the historic value of the building and to pay
tribute to the Legislature.
(c) The Clerk of the House of Representatives and the
Secretary of the Senate shall set the price of any desk,

Secretary of the Senate shall set the price of any desk,
chair, or other item used in the old chambers and not being
relocated to the new Alabama State House and may sell the
items to members and employees of the Legislature, in a manner
determined by the clerk and secretary.  
Section 2. This act shall become effective on July 1,
2025.
