17	17	SYNOPSIS:
18	18	This bill would require individuals in
19	19	possession of a firearm to secure the firearm in a
20	20	manner that a reasonable individual would know that an
21	21	unauthorized individual is not likely to gain access to
22	22	the firearm.
23	23	This bill would also provide a criminal penalty
24	24	for securing a firearm in violation of this
25	25	requirement.

27	27	TO BE ENTITLED
28	28	AN ACT
29	29	Relating to firearms; to establish firearm storage
30	30	requirements; and to establish criminal penalties for
31	31	violations.
32	32	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
33	33	Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this section, the
34	34	following terms have the following meanings:
35	35	(1) FIREARM. The same meaning as provided in Section
36	36	13A-8-1, Code of Alabama 1975.
37	37	(2) UNAUTHORIZED PERSON. Any individual whom a
38	38	possessor of a firearm has not authorized to possess the

68	68	possessor of a firearm has not authorized to possess the
69	69	firearm or any individual not legally permitted to possess a
70	70	particular firearm under state or federal law.
71	71	(b) An individual shall at all times secure a firearm
72	72	in his or her possession, control, care, or custody in a
73	73	manner and location where the individual knows, or reasonably
74	74	should know, that an unauthorized person is not likely to gain
75	75	access to the firearm.
76	76	(c) A violation of subsection (b) is a Class C felony.
77	77	(d) Neither of the following shall be construed to have
78	78	been stored in violation of subsection (b):
79	79	(1) A firearm stored with a gun lock.
80	80	(2) A firearm carried on one's person.
81	81	Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
82	82	1, 2025.
