18	18	Relating to Madison County; to amend Section
19	19	45-45-230.01, Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for the
20	20	compensation of the sheriff.
21	21	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
22	22	Section 1. Section 45-45-230.01, Code of Alabama 1975,
23	23	is amended to read as follows:
24	24	"§45-45-230.01
25	25	(a) Commencing with the next term of office beginning
26	26	in January of 1999, the Sheriff of Madison County shall
27	27	receive an annual salary of seventy thousand dollars
28	28	($70,000)Any newly-elected Sheriff of Madison County shall
29	29	receive a base salary of one hundred seventy thousand dollars
30	30	($170,000) per year, effective as of the first full pay period
31	31	after the start of the newly-elected sheriff's first term in
32	32	office, which begins on the first Monday after the second
33	33	Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election pursuant
34	34	to Section 36-3-4 .
35	35	(b) After serving a first full four-year term in
36	36	office, if the sheriff is re-elected to a second successive
37	37	term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent salary increase,

67	67	term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent salary increase,
68	68	effective as of the first full pay period after the start of
69	69	the sheriff's second successive term, which begins on the
70	70	first Monday after the second Tuesday of January next after
71	71	the sheriff's selection pursuant to Section 36-3-4.
72	72	(c) After serving a second full four-year term in
73	73	office, if the sheriff is re-elected to any successive term,
74	74	then the sheriff shall receive an increase in the sheriff's
75	75	then-existing salary in the amount of 7.5 percent, effective
76	76	as of the first full pay period after the start of each
77	77	successive term, which begins on the first Monday after the
78	78	second Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election
79	79	pursuant to Section 36-3-4.
80	80	(d) If the sheriff is elected to a non-successive term,
81	81	the sheriff shall receive a salary of one hundred seventy
82	82	thousand dollars ($170,00) per year, effective as of the first
83	83	full pay period after the start of the sheriff's
84	84	non-successive term which begins on the first Monday after the
85	85	second Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election
86	86	pursuant to Section 36-3-4. Thereafter, if the sheriff serves
87	87	a full non-successive four-year term and is re-elected to a
88	88	successive term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent
89	89	salary increase. Subsequently, the sheriff shall receive an
90	90	increase in the sheriff's then-existing salary in the amount
91	91	of 7.5 percent for any successive term to which the sheriff is
92	92	re-elected, effective as of the first full pay period after
93	93	the start of the sheriff's successive term.
94	94	(e) During each term in office, the sheriff shall
95	95	receive benefits regularly provided to employees of the

125	125	receive benefits regularly provided to employees of the
126	126	Madison County Commission, but shall not receive any
127	127	cost-of-living compensation increases.
128	128	(f) Other than as specified in this section, the
129	129	sheriff shall receive no other increases in compensation.
130	130	(g) The following shall apply to the individual serving
131	131	as sheriff on June 1, 2025:
132	132	(1) Beginning June 1, 2025, he or she shall receive an
133	133	increase in salary from his or her current compensation of one
134	134	hundred fifty-four thousand eighty-six dollars and forty cents
135	135	($154,086.40) per year to one hundred seventy thousand dollars
136	136	($170,000) per year.
137	137	(2) He or she shall also receive a 7.5 percent salary
138	138	increase for serving a second successive term in office,
139	139	resulting in a salary of one hundred eighty-two thousand seven
140	140	hundred fifty dollars ($182,750) per year.
141	141	(3) Thereafter, if re-elected to a successive term, he
142	142	or she shall receive an increase in his or her then-existing
143	143	salary in the amount of 7.5 percent effective as of the first
144	144	full pay period after the start of his or her successive term.
145	145	(4) The provisions of this subsection shall be void
146	146	when the individual serving as sheriff on June 1, 2025, ceases
147	147	to serve as sheriff.
148	148	(b) The Sheriff of Madison County shall not receive any
149	149	monetary compensation of any kind other than reimbursements
150	150	for itemized expenses and other than the annual salary set
151	151	forth herein. "
152	152	Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
153	153	2025.
