1817 SJR___ CELEBRATING THE PROPOSED ROSA PARKS DAY ACT.
1918 WHEREAS, the Alabama Senate takes great pride in
2019 recognizing and supporting the heroes of the State of
2120 Alabama who have selflessly labored in their fight against
2221 injustice; and
2322 WHEREAS, December 1 marks the anniversary of Rosa
2423 Parks' historic 1955 arrest after she courageously refused
2524 to relinquish her seat on a Montgomery city bus to a white
2625 male passenger; this act of defiance sparked the Montgomery
2726 Bus Boycott, a pivotal movement led by the African American
2827 community that resulted in the desegregation of Montgomery's
2928 public bus system; and
3029 WHEREAS, Mrs. Parks demonstrated not only her morals
3130 and ethics relating to discrimination, but also the value of
3231 life and equality ; and
3332 WHEREAS, in the rightful commemoration of the life of
3433 Mrs. Rosa Parks, each individual can become an ethical and
3534 moral leader through his or her decisions, recognizing and
3635 understanding his or her values, and having the resolve to
3736 follow through with them ; and
3837 WHEREAS, the Rosa Parks Day Act is proposed
3938 legislation that would designate December 1 as a federal
4039 holiday commemorating the historic arrest of Rosa Parks; it
4140 is vital to the success of the State of Alabama to support

7473 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
7574 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we recognize and commend the
7675 proposed Rosa Parks Day Act, as an opportunity to honor Rosa
7776 Parks' extraordinary courage and enduring legacy, which
7877 continues to inspire the pursuit of justice, equality, and
7978 human dignity for all.
