18	17		SJR___ CELEBRATING THE PROPOSED ROSA PARKS DAY ACT.
19	18		WHEREAS, the Alabama Senate takes great pride in
20	19		recognizing and supporting the heroes of the State of
21	20		Alabama who have selflessly labored in their fight against
22	21		injustice; and
23	22		WHEREAS, December 1 marks the anniversary of Rosa
24	23		Parks' historic 1955 arrest after she courageously refused
25	24		to relinquish her seat on a Montgomery city bus to a white
26	25		male passenger; this act of defiance sparked the Montgomery
27	26		Bus Boycott, a pivotal movement led by the African American
28	27		community that resulted in the desegregation of Montgomery's
29	28		public bus system; and
30	29		WHEREAS, Mrs. Parks demonstrated not only her morals
31	30		and ethics relating to discrimination, but also the value of
32	31		life and equality ; and
33	32		WHEREAS, in the rightful commemoration of the life of
34	33		Mrs. Rosa Parks, each individual can become an ethical and
35	34		moral leader through his or her decisions, recognizing and
36	35		understanding his or her values, and having the resolve to
37	36		follow through with them ; and
38	37		WHEREAS, the Rosa Parks Day Act is proposed
39	38		legislation that would designate December 1 as a federal
40	39		holiday commemorating the historic arrest of Rosa Parks; it
41	40		is vital to the success of the State of Alabama to support

74	73		BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
75	74		HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we recognize and commend the
76	75		proposed Rosa Parks Day Act, as an opportunity to honor Rosa
77	76		Parks' extraordinary courage and enduring legacy, which
78	77		continues to inspire the pursuit of justice, equality, and
