2726 LARRY BLAKENEY, FOR BEING ENSHRINED INTO THE COLLEGE
2827 FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME, CLASS OF 2025.
2928 WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, Troy
3029 University's winningest coach, Larry Blakeney, is highly
3130 commended and congratulated for being enshrined into the
3231 College Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2025; the event will
3332 take place during the 37th National Football Foundation
3433 Awards Dinner; and
3534 WHEREAS, Birmingham, Alabama, native and former
3635 Auburn quarterback under Shug Jordan, Coach Larry Blakeney,
3736 is the all-time winningest coach in both Troy University
3837 (TROY) and Sun Belt Conference (SBC) history, holding a
3938 20-win advantage over the next closest competitor; he now
4039 becomes the first-ever player or coach in TROY or SBC
4140 history to enter the College Football Hall of Fame; and
4241 WHEREAS, some of Coach Blakeney's career achievements
4342 include: a career record of 178-113-1, winning 61.1 percent
4443 of his games in his 24 seasons at TROY; guiding the Trojans
4544 to seven Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoff
4645 appearances in eight seasons; leading the Trojans to five
4746 bowl games and securing victories in 2006 and 2010; guiding
4847 TROY to eight conference championships, including three in
4948 the Southland Conference (SLC), before achieving an SBC

7978 the Southland Conference (SLC), before achieving an SBC
8079 record of five consecutive titles from 2006-2010; and
8180 WHEREAS, Coach Blakeney led TROY'S transition from
8281 NCAA Division II to Division I in 1993 at the FCS level and
8382 further led the Trojans to the Football Bowl Subdivision
8483 (FBS) in 2002; he is one of only two coaches to lead a
8584 program from Division II to the FBS, a feat that earned him
8685 many accolades during its progression; he was named
8786 conference Coach of the Year twice each in the SLC and SBC
8887 and two-time American Football Coaches Association Regional
8988 Coach of the Year; he has been inducted into the Wiregrass
9089 Sports Hall of Fame, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and
9190 the inaugural class of the Troy University Sports Hall of
9291 Fame; now therefore,
9392 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
9493 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Coach Larry Blakeney, a
9594 legend of the Troy University Football Program, is highly
9695 commended and congratulated for his well-earned and historic
9796 induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, and this
9897 resolution is offered to him with our highest regard and
9998 best wishes for continued health, happiness, and prosperity.
