25	25	SJR___ HONORING THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS OF THE YEAR BY
26	26	THE EXCHANGE CLUB OF TUSCALOOSA.
27	27	WHEREAS, the Legislature of Alabama takes great pride
28	28	in recognizing the efforts of the men and women serving in
29	29	law enforcement; and
30	30	WHEREAS, each year since the 1940s, the Exchange Club
31	31	of Tuscaloosa hosts several events that honor amazing
32	32	individuals across Tuscaloosa County who have gone beyond
33	33	the call of duty to protect their communities; one of these
34	34	events is the Law Enforcement Officers of the Year ceremony,
35	35	which brings out agencies across Tuscaloosa County to honor
36	36	a member from each for their outstanding bravery and courage
37	37	in their work; and
38	38	WHEREAS, the Northport Police Department's honoree
39	39	for this year's award was Officer Jose Martinez; he has
40	40	consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, a strong
41	41	work ethic, and a deep commitment to both public safety and
42	42	community encouragement in his role as traffic officer; and
43	43	WHEREAS, the Tuscaloosa Police Department's honoree
44	44	was Sergeant Devin Kerstetter; in March of 2024, Sergeant
45	45	Kerstetter responded to a house fire; he was one of the
46	46	first to arrive on scene, assisted in finding a way inside
47	47	the home, and helped save the victims; and
48	48	WHEREAS, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office's

78	78	WHEREAS, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office's
79	79	honoree was Deputy Deonte Washington; shortly after
80	80	beginning his career, Deputy Washington responded to a fire
81	81	in January 2024 where he braved the fire, cleared the
82	82	building, found the source of the fire, and aided in saving
83	83	the victims; and
84	84	WHEREAS, Investigator Jessica Wilson from The
85	85	University of Alabama Police Department and Senior Trooper
86	86	Heath Heaton from the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency
87	87	both were selected for their courage in the face of
88	88	adversity; and
89	89	WHEREAS, these officers exhibit the epitome of
90	90	selflessness and what it means to protect; we thank them
91	91	extensively for their bravery, honor, and sacrifice; now
92	92	therefore,
93	93	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
94	94	HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That with great pride and special
95	95	pleasure, these officers are highly honored and commended on
96	96	their unwavering commitment to the protection of this state
97	97	and Tuscaloosa County, and we wish them success in all
98	98	future endeavors.
