26	25		SJR___ CELEBRATING THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF EVERGREEN
27	26		BAPTIST CHURCH.
28	27		WHEREAS, the churches in Alabama have been an
29	28		integral part of our history as a people and have had an
30	29		unparalleled impact in forming and maintaining a stable and
31	30		just society; and
32	31		WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we should recognize
33	32		these venerable religious institutions and their
34	33		congregations who, through their unflagging capacity for
35	34		love, dedication of spirit, and faith in God, strive to
36	35		enrich the lives of people in their communities; and
37	36		WHEREAS, one such dynamic and historic community of
38	37		faith is Evergreen Baptist Church, located in Clayton,
39	38		Alabama, the members of which will celebrate the church's
40	39		150th Anniversary this year; and
41	40		WHEREAS, Evergreen Baptist Church was originally
42	41		built as a log structure on land donated by Reverend A.H.
43	42		Borders, the first pastor; it was later replaced by a square
44	43		frame building with wooden shutters, which served the
45	44		congregation until 1942, when the current building was
46	45		constructed; over the ensuing years, the church building has
47	46		been expanded and renovated many times to meet the needs of
48	47		the changing congregation; and
49	48		WHEREAS, for 150 years, holy guidance and leadership

79	78		WHEREAS, for 150 years, holy guidance and leadership
80	79		has been provided by many different pastors who have all
81	80		left their marks on the historic church, congregation, and
82	81		community; these pastors include Reverend J.A. Seay; Pastor
83	82		F.M. Shirah; Reverend Lon Renfroe; Reverend W.T. James;
84	83		Reverend B.S. Warr; Reverend Wendell Wentz; Reverend L.D.
85	84		Woodham; Pastor Scott Watson; Pastor S.J. Graham; Pastor
86	85		K.B. Russell; Pastor Ronald Earles; Pastor Raymond Miller;
87	86		and Pastor Earl Ledbetter, Jr.; and
88	87		WHEREAS, Pastor Wiley McWhorter is currently serving
89	88		as minister to the congregation of Evergreen Baptist Church;
90	89		and
91	90		WHEREAS, Evergreen Baptist Church has survived
92	91		throughout the years by the commitment of its members and by
93	92		the loving grace of God; many generations of congregants
94	93		have been encouraged and their faith strengthened through
95	94		the leadership of this church; and
96	95		WHEREAS, a remarkable congregation indeed, Evergreen
97	96		Baptist Church has been passionately sharing the Word and
98	97		love of God, transforming lives, and bringing people
99	98		together in fellowship for a century and a half; now
100	99		therefore,
101	100		BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
102	101		HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we join in celebrating the
103	102		150th Anniversary of Evergreen Baptist Church, and this
104	103		resolution is offered to its pastor and congregation in
105	104		deepest admiration and appreciation, along with sincere best
106	105		wishes for continued blessings.
