15	15	SR____ RECOGNIZING APRIL 1, 2025, AS ALPHA PHI ALPHA DAY AT
16	16	THE STATE CAPITOL.
17	17	WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated,
18	18	the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity
19	19	established for African Americans, was founded at Cornell
20	20	University in Ithaca, New York, on December 4, 1906, by
21	21	Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle
22	22	Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray,
23	23	Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy, known as the
24	24	"Jewels"; who recognized the need for a strong bond of
25	25	brotherhood among African descendants in this country; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated,
27	27	for 118 years has been a beacon of light to the community by
28	28	standing true to its aims of Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and
29	29	Love for all Mankind; and
30	30	WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated,
31	31	has produced over 200,000 members that were inducted into
32	32	706 college and alumni chapters in the United States,
33	33	Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean; and
34	34	WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated,
35	35	continues to make a difference in our society through the
36	36	fraternity's national programs of civic outreach initiatives
37	37	which accumulate over one million hours of community
38	38	service, producing $2.5 million in scholarships, and

71	71	WHEREAS, the 17th Annual "Alpha Day at the Capitol"
72	72	convenes under the leadership of Alabama District Director
73	73	Michael Raynard Mayberry and District Deputy Director Kelvin
74	74	T. Wallace, Sr., representing 32 chapters across the State
75	75	of Alabama; now therefore,
76	76	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE LEGISLATURE OF
77	77	ALABAMA, That the members of this body commend Alpha Phi
78	78	Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and the Alabama District
79	79	Chapters for their outstanding contributions to this nation
80	80	and the State of Alabama and recognize April 1, 2025, as
81	81	Alpha Phi Alpha Day at the Alabama State Capitol.
