1515 SR____ RECOGNIZING APRIL 1, 2025, AS ALPHA PHI ALPHA DAY AT
1616 THE STATE CAPITOL.
1717 WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated,
1818 the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity
1919 established for African Americans, was founded at Cornell
2020 University in Ithaca, New York, on December 4, 1906, by
2121 Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle
2222 Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray,
2323 Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy, known as the
2424 "Jewels"; who recognized the need for a strong bond of
2525 brotherhood among African descendants in this country; and
2626 WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated,
2727 for 118 years has been a beacon of light to the community by
2828 standing true to its aims of Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and
2929 Love for all Mankind; and
3030 WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated,
3131 has produced over 200,000 members that were inducted into
3232 706 college and alumni chapters in the United States,
3333 Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean; and
3434 WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated,
3535 continues to make a difference in our society through the
3636 fraternity's national programs of civic outreach initiatives
3737 which accumulate over one million hours of community
3838 service, producing $2.5 million in scholarships, and

7171 WHEREAS, the 17th Annual "Alpha Day at the Capitol"
7272 convenes under the leadership of Alabama District Director
7373 Michael Raynard Mayberry and District Deputy Director Kelvin
7474 T. Wallace, Sr., representing 32 chapters across the State
7575 of Alabama; now therefore,
7676 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE LEGISLATURE OF
7777 ALABAMA, That the members of this body commend Alpha Phi
7878 Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and the Alabama District
7979 Chapters for their outstanding contributions to this nation
8080 and the State of Alabama and recognize April 1, 2025, as
8181 Alpha Phi Alpha Day at the Alabama State Capitol.
