IN RESPECTFUL MEMORY OF JOHNATHAN MITCHEL L "MITCH" 8 
PETRUS.  9

IN RESPECTFUL MEMORY OF JOHNATHAN 13 
MITCHELL "MITCH" PETRUS. 14 
 15 
 WHEREAS, Johnathan Mitchell "Mitch" Petrus, former New York Giants 16 
offensive lineman from Carlisle, Arkansas, died suddenly on July 18, 2019, at 17 
32 years of age; and 18 
 19 
 WHEREAS, Mr. Petrus played tight end for the Carlisle High School 20 
football team before becoming a walk -on fullback and then an offensive guard 21 
for the Arkansas Razorbacks football team during his college years; and 22 
 23 
 WHEREAS, Mr. Petrus earned two (2) All -Southeastern Conference honors 24 
during his time at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and was 25 
remembered by the Arkansas Razorbacks team with these words: “We are deeply 26 
saddened by the passing of Mitch Petrus.  He was an outstanding competitor, 27 
incredible teammate, and a true Hog.  He will be greatly missed by many. Rest 28 
easy, Mitch”; and 29

 WHEREAS, after graduating from the University of Arkansas at 31 
Fayetteville, Mr. Petrus played for the Nationa l Football League with the New 32 
York Giants, the New England Patriots, and the Tennessee Titans and was part 33 
of the New York Giants' squad that won Super Bowl XLVI in 2012; and 34

 WHEREAS, after retiring from the National Football League in 2013, Mr. 36     	SMR2

Petrus returned to Arkansas where he often appeared on local television as a 1 
football analyst in the studio and as a sidelines reporter during televised 2 
high school football games; and 3

 WHEREAS, Mr. Petrus also enjoyed a political career, serving as the 5 
chief of staff to former President Pro Tempore of the Senate Jonathan Dismang 6 
in 2017; and 7 
 8 
 WHEREAS, Mr. Petrus will be remembered among teammates and friends for 9 
his enthusiasm, upbeat attitude, and strength, both on and off the field, 10 
 11 
NOW THEREFORE,  12 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY -THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 13 
STATE OF ARKANSAS: 14 
 15 
 THAT the Senate remember and commend Johnathan Mitchell "Mitch" Petrus 16 
for his contributions to the State of Arkansas. 17 
 18 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the individual members of the Senate express 19 
sincere condolences to the family of Johnathan Mitchell "Mitch" Petrus, and 20 
that upon adoption of this resolution, an appropriate copy shall be provided 21 
to the family of Johnathan Mitchell "Mitch" Petrus by the Secretary of the 22 
Senate. 23
