BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 22

SECTION 1. DO NOT CODIFY. 24
(a) Effective January 1, 2026, the offices of sheriff and tax 25
collector in Ouachita County, Arkansas, shall be separate offices. 26
(b) Effective January 1, 2026, the offices of tax collector and 27
treasurer in Ouachita County, Arkansas, shall be consolidat ed into one (1) 28
office. 29
(c) At the 2026 general election, the electors of Ouachita County 30
shall elect both a sheriff and a tax collector -treasurer, and each officer so 31
elected shall take office on January 1, 2027. 32
(d) The sheriff and the tax collector -treasurer in Ouachita County 33
shall each give bond for the faithful performance of their respective duties 34
as provided by law. 35

shall each receive compensation that shall be determined by t he Ouachita 1
County Quorum Court within the minimum and maximum compensation range 2
prescribed by the General Assembly and shall hire deputies and have other 3
allowances as prescribed by the Ouachita County Quorum Court. 4
