2121 WHEREAS, The Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South) 18
2222 is a nonpartisan, nonprofit member organization that serves the southern 19
2323 legislatures of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, 20
2424 Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, 21
2525 Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia; and 22

2727 WHEREAS, with regionally based leadership and perspective and national -24
2828 level resources, CSG South provides southern legislators and government staff 25
2929 with a wide variety of programs and services that facilitate regional 26
3030 cooperation and encourage the exchange of information; and 27

3232 WHEREAS, CSG South is governed by an executive committee made up of 29
3333 legislative leadership, and policy topics are overseen by six standing policy 30
3434 committees that consist of legislators and government staff from the member 31

3737 WHEREAS, the mission of the organization is to serve as a community of 34
3838 the states, committed to connecting, informing, inspiring, and empowering 35

4646 WHEREAS, in pursuit of this mission, CSG South has convened the 3
4747 Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) for the past seventy -six (76) years, 4
4848 beginning with its incept ion in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and moving into 5
4949 decades of fellowship and cooperation between the fifteen (15) southern 6

5252 WHEREAS, the Seventy-seventh Southern Legislative Conference will 9
5353 convene in Charleston, South Carolina, from July 8 to 12, 2023; and 10

5555 WHEREAS, more than one thousand five hundred (1,500) southern 12
5656 legislators, government staff, and their families will gather to discuss 13
5757 policy matters specifically affecting southern states to bridge commonalities 14
5858 and discuss solutions for curre nt policy trends, challenges, and 15
