21	21	WHEREAS, The Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South) 18
22	22	is a nonpartisan, nonprofit member organization that serves the southern 19
23	23	legislatures of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, 20
24	24	Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, 21
25	25	Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia; and 22

27	27	WHEREAS, with regionally based leadership and perspective and national -24
28	28	level resources, CSG South provides southern legislators and government staff 25
29	29	with a wide variety of programs and services that facilitate regional 26
30	30	cooperation and encourage the exchange of information; and 27

32	32	WHEREAS, CSG South is governed by an executive committee made up of 29
33	33	legislative leadership, and policy topics are overseen by six standing policy 30
34	34	committees that consist of legislators and government staff from the member 31

37	37	WHEREAS, the mission of the organization is to serve as a community of 34
38	38	the states, committed to connecting, informing, inspiring, and empowering 35
39	39	public servants in all three branches of state government to put the best 36 SR16

46	46	WHEREAS, in pursuit of this mission, CSG South has convened the 3
47	47	Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) for the past seventy -six (76) years, 4
48	48	beginning with its incept ion in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and moving into 5
49	49	decades of fellowship and cooperation between the fifteen (15) southern 6
50	50	states; and 7

52	52	WHEREAS, the Seventy-seventh Southern Legislative Conference will 9
53	53	convene in Charleston, South Carolina, from July 8 to 12, 2023; and 10

55	55	WHEREAS, more than one thousand five hundred (1,500) southern 12
56	56	legislators, government staff, and their families will gather to discuss 13
57	57	policy matters specifically affecting southern states to bridge commonalities 14
58	58	and discuss solutions for curre nt policy trends, challenges, and 15
59	59	opportunities; and 16

61	61	WHEREAS, CSG South offers a welcome to all southern legislative, 18
62	62	executive, and judicial officials to attend, 19

65	65	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY -FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 22

68	68	THAT the Senate recognize the Seventy-seventh Southern Legislative 25
69	69	Conference of the Council of State Governments Southern Office. 26

71	71	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be 28
72	72	provided to Council of State Governments Southern Office Director Lindsey 29
73	73	Gray by the Chief Secretary of the Senate. 30
