2523 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 21

2725 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code § 6 -18-711, concerning administration of 23
2826 medication for diabetes in schools, is amended to add an additional 24
2927 subsection to read as follows: 25
30- (d)(1) If a school district provides educational information on 26
31-immunizations, infectious diseases, medications, or other school health 27
32-issues to parents and guardians of students in kindergarten through grade 28
33-twelve (K-12), the following educational information about Type 1 and Type 2 29
34-diabetes shall be included: 30
35- (A) A description of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes; 31
36- (B) A description of the risk factors and warning signs 32
37-associated with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes; 33
38- (C) A recommendation to the parent or guardian of a 34
39-student displaying warning signs associated with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes 35

28+ (d)(1) If a school district provides information on immunizations, 26
29+infectious diseases, medications, or other school health issues to parents 27
30+and guardians of students in kindergarten through grade twelve (K -12), the 28
31+following information about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes shall be included: 29
32+ (A) A description of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes; 30
33+ (B) A description of the risk factors and warning signs 31

53- (2) The Department of Education, in cooperation with the 9

55-information about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes to school districts and on the 11
56-website of each department. 12
57- (3) Diabetes-related educational information provided by school 13
58-districts to parents and guardians of students as required by this subsection 14
59-is solely for the purposes of educational information and shall not be 15
60-considered or construed to be for the purposes of providing a medical 16
