20	20	WHEREAS, "Broadway" Joe Booker, a South Carolina native, began his 18
21	21	broadcasting career in the United States Air Force in 1976 as an announcer 19
22	22	with the American Forces Network Korea; and 20

24	24	WHEREAS, after relocating to Arkansas, "Broadway" Joe Booker earned an 22
25	25	associate degree at Arkansas State University and then earned a Bachelor of 23
26	26	Arts at Arkansas Baptist College in African American Community Leadership; 24

29	29	WHEREAS, "Broadway" Joe Booker continued to hone his broadcasting 27
30	30	skills, becoming well known in Central Arkansas as "Broadway Joe", and 28
31	31	receiving accolades such as: 29
32	32	(1) A nomination from Billboard Radio & Records for Station of 30
33	33	the Year in 1993; 31
34	34	(2) The Billboard Radio & Records award for Impact Program 32
35	35	Director of the Year in 1994; 33
36	36	(3) The National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio award 34
37	37	for Medium Market Station of the Year for the entire nation; and 35
38	38	(4) The Billboard's Distinction award on behalf of the station 36 HR1030

43	43	WHEREAS, "Broadway" Joe Booker started area promotional events such as 3
44	44	Blues on the River and Juneteenth, collectively earning over one hundred 4
45	45	forty thousand dollars ($140,000) for The Watershed, a Little Rock nonprofit 5
46	46	devoted to transforming the lives of those it serves; and 6

48	48	WHEREAS, some of the many humanitarian causes to which "Broadway" Joe 8
49	49	Booker dedicates his life include the Power 92 Jammers basketball team, the 9
50	50	Jacksonville Mighty Vikings youth football team, The Watershed annual 10
51	51	Christmas Food Drive, Little Rock's Crisis Team and Gang Task Force, and the 11
52	52	national OK Program to mentor African American men and boys; and 12

54	54	WHEREAS, "Broadway" Joe Booker is now the program director at Cumulus 14
55	55	Media, Little Rock, program director at KIPR Power 92.3 Jams, and host of the 15
56	56	"Broadway Joe Talk Show" and also the "Broadway Joe Video Show" which was the 16
57	57	first Little Rock urban music video program; and 17

59	59	WHEREAS, "Broadway" Joe Booker remains convinced that connection to his 19
60	60	audience transcends changing fashions and tastes and has been quoted as 20
61	61	saying that "as African Americans, we expect to get all our information, 21
62	62	education[,] and entertainment from our radio station, and that goes back to 22
63	63	the 50s[,] 60s[,] and 70s"; and 23

65	65	WHEREAS, "Broadway" Joe Booker says that family is the "key to all of 25
66	66	his success", and he and wife Freddie have been married over thirty (30) 26
67	67	years and are proud parents and grandparents, 27

70	70	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY -FIFTH GENERAL 30

73	73	THAT the House of Representatives honor "Broadway" Joe Booker for his 33
74	74	contributions to the community and to the State of Arkansas. 34
