2222 WHEREAS, Elizabeth "Betty" Kaufman Thines was born in the rural 20
2323 community of St. Vincent, Arkansas, on March 4, 1918; and 21

2525 WHEREAS, Elizabeth "Betty" Kaufman Thines worked alongside eight (8) of 23
2626 her siblings to take over operation of Kaufman Farms in 1931, and they were 24
2727 selected as the 1939 Arkansas landowner champions of the Plant to Prosper 25
2828 Competition, which recognized farmers who incorporated best farming practices 26
2929 and improved utilization of cotton cropland; and 27

3131 WHEREAS, Elizabeth "Betty" Kaufman Thines served as Deputy County Clerk 29
3232 in Conway County, Arkansas, from 1941 -45; and 30

3434 WHEREAS, Elizabeth "Betty" Kaufman Thines was a stenographer and 32
3535 secretary for the House of Representatives during 1953 -55 and 1959; and 33

3737 WHEREAS, during her time of service to the House of Representatives in 35

4444 WHEREAS, Elizabeth "Betty" Kaufman Thines was pleased to serve the 4
4545 State of Arkansas and is proud that photographs of her during her time of 5
4646 service with the House of Representatives are still on display in the State 6

4949 WHEREAS, from 1959-68, Elizabeth "Betty" Kaufman Thines co -owned and 9
5050 operated, alongside her husband, Henry, Thines Supermarket in Morrilton; and 10

5252 WHEREAS, Elizabeth "Betty" Kaufman Thines has executed an integral role 12
5353 in the preservation and continuation of Kaufman Farms, which was designated 13
5454 as an Arkansas Century Farm in 2018; and 14

5757 Kaufman Thines was to officially record votes made by the House of 17

6060 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives wishes to recognize Elizabeth 20
6161 "Betty" Kaufman Thines by conducting a vote on the floor of the House of 21
6262 Representatives to honor her public service and the many contributions she 22
6363 has made to the State of Arkansas that are worthy of recognition on the 23
6464 memorable occasion of her one hundred seventh birthday, 24
