*ADF146* 03/18/2025 8:10:41 AM ADF146 State of Arkansas 1 95th General Assembly 2 Regular Session, 2025 HR 1090 3 4 By: Representative Crawford 5 6 7 HOUSE RESOLUTION 8 TO RECOGNIZE MARCH 29, 2025, AS VIETNAM WAR VETERANS 9 DAY AND MARCH 2025 AS VIETNAM ERA VETERANS MONTH IN 10 ARKANSAS IN APPRECIATION OF THE SACRIFICES AND 11 CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BY VIETNAM WAR VETERANS. 12 13 14 Subtitle 15 TO RECOGNIZE MARCH 29, 2025, AS VIETNAM 16 WAR VETERANS DAY AND MARCH 2025 AS 17 VIETNAM ERA VETERANS MONTH IN ARKANSAS 18 IN APPRECIATION OF THE SACRIFICES AND 19 CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BY VIETNAM WAR 20 VETERANS. 21 22 WHEREAS, the Vietnam War was fought in the Republic of Vietnam from 23 1955 to 1975 and involved regular forces from the Democratic Republic of 24 Vietnam and Viet Cong guerilla forces in armed conflict with the United 25 States Armed Forces, the armed forces of allies of the United States, and the 26 armed forces of the Republic of Vietnam; and 27 28 WHEREAS, the United States Armed Forces became involved in Vietnam 29 because the United States Government wanted to provide direct military 30 support to the government of the Republic of Vietnam to defend against the 31 growing threat of communism from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam; and 32 33 WHEREAS, citizens of Arkansas answered their country's call as they 34 have in every armed conflict in which the United States has been a 35 participant; and 36 HR1090 2 03/18/2025 8:10:41 AM ADF146 1 WHEREAS, some Arkansans served in or off the coast of the Republic of 2 Vietnam, while others served in critical roles such as training and 3 logistics; and 4 5 WHEREAS, more than fifty -eight thousand (58,000) members of the United 6 States Armed Forces lost their lives in the Vietnam War, including five 7 hundred ninety-two (592) Arkansans; and 8 9 WHEREAS, in 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated in 10 Washington, D.C., to commemorate the members of the United States Armed 11 Forces who died or were declared missing in action in Vietnam; and 12 13 WHEREAS, the Arkansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial is inscribed with the 14 names of Arkansans who lost their lives in the Vietnam War, and the memorial 15 was dedicated on the grounds of the State Capitol in Little Rock on March 7, 16 1987, by retired United States Army General William Westmoreland; and 17 18 WHEREAS, the Vietnam War was an extremely divisive issue among the 19 people of the United States and a conflict that caused a generation of 20 veterans to have to wait too long for the public of the United States to 21 acknowledge and honor their efforts and services; and 22 23 WHEREAS, members of the United States Armed Forces who bravely and 24 faithfully served the United States during the Vietnam War were often wrongly 25 criticized for the decisions of policymakers that were beyond the control of 26 those servicemen and servicewomen; and 27 28 WHEREAS, recognizing March 29, 2025, as Vietnam War Veterans Day and 29 March 2025 as Vietnam Era Veterans Month in Arkansas is an appropriate way to 30 honor the members of the United States Armed Forces who served in Vietnam; 31 and 32 33 WHEREAS, it is important for all Arkansans to express appreciation for 34 the veterans of the Vietnam War, to demonstrate a resolve that the people of 35 the State of Arkansas shall never forget the sacrifices and service of a 36 HR1090 3 03/18/2025 8:10:41 AM ADF146 generation of veterans who served in the Vietnam War, and to promote 1 awareness of the faithful service and contributions of the veterans of the 2 Vietnam War era, 3 4 NOW THEREFORE, 5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY -FIFTH GENERAL 6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 7 8 THAT the House of Representatives recognize March 29, 2025, as Vietnam 9 War Veterans Day and March 2025 as Vietnam Era Veterans Month in Arkansas in 10 appreciation of the sacrifices and contributions made by Vietnam War 11 veterans. 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36
