2424 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 22

2626 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code § 6 -5-501 is amended to read as follows: 24
2727 6-5-501. Definitions. 25
2828 As used in this subchapter: 26
2929 (1) “Revolutionary War” means the insurrection of the thirteen 27
3030 (13) original American colonies that led to the formation of the United 28
3131 States of America and lasted from 1775 -1783; 29
3232 (2) “Civil War” means the 1861 -1865 American Civil War; 30
3333 (3) “Civil War-era weapon” means an instrument used in offensive 31
3434 or defensive combat during the Civil War or a modern reproduction; 32
3535 (4) “Civil War reenactor” means a member of an organized group 33
3636 acting out historical events from the Civil War and carrying an actual weapon 34
3737 from that era or a reproduction; 35
3838 (5)(3) “French and Indian War” means the portion of the war 36 SB138

4242 States of America from 1754 -1763; 2
4343 (4) “Mexican-American War” means the war between the United 3
4444 States and Mexico from 1846 -1848; 4
4545 (5) “School official” means a public school district 5
4646 superintendent or principal, a private school superintendent or principal, a 6
4747 president, chancellor, or dean of a publicly supported institution of higher 7
4848 education, or a president or dean of a private institution of higher 8
4949 education; and 9
5050 (6) “School property” means any building, bus, campus, ground, 10
5151 recreational area, athletic field, or other area or structure owned or in the 11
5252 charge of a public school district, a private school, a publicly supported 12
5353 institution of higher education, or a private institution of higher 13
5454 education.; 14
5555 (7) “War of 1812” means the conflict between the United States 15
5656 and Great Britain from 1812 -1815; 16
5757 (8) “War reenactor” means a member of an organized group acting 17
5858 out historical events from a war defined in this section and carrying an 18
5959 actual weapon from that era or a reproduction of a weapon from that era; and 19
6060 (9) “War-era weapon” means an instrument used in offensive or 20
6161 defensive combat during a war defined in this section or a modern 21
6262 reproduction of such an instrument. 22

6464 SECTION 2. Arkansas Code § 6 -5-502 is amended to read as follows: 24
6565 6-5-502. Weapons. 25
6666 (a) A person in this state who is a Civil War war reenactor as defined 26
6767 in § 6-5-501 may carry a Civil War war-era weapon on school property for 27
6868 educational purposes so long as a school official grants approval in advance 28
6969 and, if the weapon is a firearm, the firearm is unloaded. 29
7070 (b) Subsection (a) of this section applies to the following wars: 30
7171 (1) The Revolutionary War; 31
7272 (2) The Civil War; 32
7373 (3) The French and Indian War; 33
7474 (4) The Mexican-American War; and 34
7575 (5) The War of 1812. 35
