AN ACT TO AMEND THE ARKANSAS ATHLETIC TRAINERS ACT; 9 
TO CLARIFY THE DEFINITION OF "ATHLETE" WITHIN THE 10 
ARKANSAS ATHLETIC TRAINERS ACT; AND FOR OTHER 11 
PURPOSES. 12

ACT; AND TO CLARIFY THE DEFINITION OF 17 
"ATHLETE" WITHIN THE ARKANSAS ATHLETIC 18 
TRAINERS ACT. 19

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 21 
 22 
 SECTION 1.  Arkansas Code § 17 -93-402(1), concerning the definition of 23 
"athlete" within the Arkansas Athletic Trainers Act, is amended to read as 24 
follows: 25 
 (1)  “Athlete” means an individual who is participating in 26 
organized athletic or team activities at the interscholastic, intramural, 27 
intercollegiate, or professional level, or sanctioned recreational sports 28 
activities activities related to recreation, sport, exercise, or tactical 29 
duty; 30

 SECTION 2.  Arkansas Code § 17 -93-402(1), concerning the definition of 32 
"direct supervision" within the Arkansas Athletic Trainers Act, is amended to 33 
read as follows: 34 
 (6)  “Direct supervision” means supervision of the athletic 35 
trainer in a clinical setting by the supervising physical therapist or 36    	SB95

physician who is readily available for consultation for the care of the 1 
athlete and is on the premises ; 2

 SECTION 3.  Arkansas Code § 17 -93-402, concerning the definitions 4 
within the Arkansas Athletic Trainers Act, is amended to add an additional 5 
subdivision to read as follows: 6 
 (10)  "Tactical duty" means activities associated with law 7 
enforcement, military, or rescue services. 8
