Johnson 5 6 7 SENATE MEMORIAL RESOLUTION 8 TO REMEMBER PUBLIC SERVANT, PUBLIC POLICY EXPERT, AND 9 EMMY AWARD-WINNING JOURNALIST ALICE STEWART. 10 11 12 Subtitle 13 TO REMEMBER PUBLIC SERVANT, PUBLIC 14 POLICY EXPERT, AND EMMY AWARD -WINNING 15 JOURNALIST ALICE STEWART. 16 17 WHEREAS, public servant, public policy expert, and Emmy -political 18 journalist Alice Stewart, formerly of Virginia, passed away May 18, 2024; and 19 20 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart was born March 11, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia, 21 and started her career there as a local reporter and producer before moving 22 to Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1998 to be a news anchor with KARK -TV; and 23 24 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart went on to serve as the communications director 25 for then-Governor Michael Dale "Mike" Huckabee and also served in this role 26 for Huckabee during his presidential campaign in 2008; and 27 28 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart served the people of Arkansas as Deputy 29 Secretary of State under Arkansas Secretary of State Mark Martin; and 30 31 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart was communications director for the presidential 32 campaigns of former United States Representative Michele Bachmann, former 33 United States Senator Rick Santorum, and United States Senator Ted Cruz; and 34 35 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart was hired by CNN as a political commentator 36 SMR3 2 02/27/2025 8:03:57 AM ADF110 ahead of the 2016 presidential election and appeared on air frequently, 1 including as a regular guest of "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer"; and 2 3 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart also served on the senior advisory committee at 4 the Institute of Politics at Harvard University's Kennedy School, where she 5 previously was a fellow; and 6 7 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart was guided by a deep faith in Jesus Christ and a 8 strong conviction to follow Him, and was a faithful member of The Church at 9 Rock Creek in Little Rock, Arkansas; and 10 11 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart was devoted to loving her family well, and 12 adored her sisters Andrea Schwind and Heather Thompson (Pete), brother Eric 13 Fraker (Vikki), nieces Brittney Lerzo (Michael) and Katie Schwind, and 14 nephews Jonathan Schwind (Madison) and Thomas Schwind; and 15 16 WHEREAS, in her free time, Alice Stewart was an avid and competitive 17 runner, and was instrumental in the founding of the Little Rock Marathon, 18 serving in many roles, including Media Director; and 19 20 WHEREAS, Alice Stewart was a board member of Girls on the Run of 21 Central Arkansas, a nonprofit that honored her by saying of Alice Stewart, 22 "Alice knew the importance of teaching girls they have limitless potential 23 and the power inside to lift up themselves and others"; and 24 25 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Leslie Rutledge said of Alice Stewart, 26 "Alice was a wonderful friend to me and never wavered in her love for others. 27 She was one of the hardest working people I have ever known. Alice was a 28 gracious and generous host, always inviting others to come fellowship with 29 her"; and 30 31 WHEREAS, CNN program host Wolf Blitzer said of Alice Stewart, "We 32 always invited her to come on my show because we knew we would be a little 33 bit smarter at the end of that conversation. She helped our viewers better 34 appreciate what was going on and that's why we will miss her so much"; and 35 36 SMR3 3 02/27/2025 8:03:57 AM ADF110 WHEREAS, Kenneth Heard wrote of Alice Stewart in Arkansas Money & 1 Politics magazine, "I respected Alice Stewart more than any reporter I dealt 2 with during my two decades in news"; and 3 4 WHEREAS, former Governor Michael Dale "Mike" Huckabee said of Alice 5 Stewart, "She was an avid runner and marathoner and encouraged me during my 6 training for the 2005 Little Rock Marathon.
