COMMENDING ARKANSAS FARMERS, RANCHERS, AND FORESTERS 9
FOR THEIR VITAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SECURITY AND 10
ECONOMIC WELL-BEING OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS AND THE 11
NATION AND FOR PRODUCING THE FOOD AND FIBER THAT IS 12
ESSENTIAL TO THE HEALTH AND SECURITY OF THE CITIZENS 13
OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS AND PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE 14
WORLD. 15

COMMENDING ARKANSAS FARMERS, RANCHERS, 19
AND FORESTERS FOR THEIR VITAL 20
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SECURITY AND 21
ECONOMIC WELL-BEING OF THE STATE OF 22
ARKANSAS AND THE NATION. 23

WHEREAS, nearly twenty percent (20%) of Arkansas’s economy is based on 25
food, fiber, and forestry; and 26
27
WHEREAS, two-thirds (2/3) of Arkansas’s counties rely heavily on 28
farming and forestry as their economic base; and 29

WHEREAS, agriculture and food -related activities and industries provide 31
more than two hundred forty thousand (240,000) jobs and employ one (1) in 32
every seven (7) Arkansans; and 33
34
WHEREAS, agricultural pursuits in this state generate a value in excess 35
of twenty-four billion dollars ($24,000,000,000) to the Arkansas economy 36 SR27

annually, which contributes to Arkansas’s stable and well -balanced economy; 1

WHEREAS, Arkansas ranks in the top one -third (1/3) of the nation for 4
agricultural cash farm receipts, including being a top -five producer of rice, 5
broiler chickens, cotton, catfish, and turkeys; and 6

WHEREAS, Arkansas has more than thirty -seven thousand four hundred 8
(37,400) farms on nearly fourteen million (14,000,000) acres and more than 9
nineteen million (19,000,000) acres of forestland; and 10

WHEREAS, Arkansas ranks fourteenth in agricultural cash receipts in the 12
nation; and 13

WHEREAS, Arkansas farmers, ranchers, and foresters feed and clothe 15
people worldwide; and 16

WHEREAS, farmers, ranchers, and foresters provide the bulk of the 18
state’s wildlife habitat, practice sound environmental stewardship, and 19
supply community leadership throughout rural Arkansas; and 20

WHEREAS, the agricultural community contributes a substantial portion 22
of the revenues that finance state and local services to all of Arkansas's 23
citizens; and 24

WHEREAS, Arkansas farmers, ranchers, and foresters are deserving of 26
public commendation and appreciation, 27

NOW THEREFORE, 29
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY -FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 30
STATE OF ARKANSAS: 31

THAT the Senate express sincere appreciation to Arkansas farmers, 33
ranchers, and foresters for their outstanding contributions to the economy of 34
the State of Arkansas and nation and to the well -being of the people and 35
commend them for their dedication to the wise utilization of our resources. 36
