MISSION OF THE AMERICAN RED CROSS. 17

WHEREAS, American Red Cross Month is an annual tradition that began 19
eighty-two (82) years ago in 1943 when former President Franklin D. Roosevelt 20
issued a presidential proclamation in an effort to raise funds for aid during 21
World War II; and 22

WHEREAS, every United States president since 1943 has made the same 24
proclamation, year after year, to honor the amazing American Red Cross 25
volunteers, blood and platelet donors, and supporters; and 26
27
WHEREAS, this March, American Red Cross Month is being celebrated by 28
recognizing the compassionate acts of people in the State of Arkansas and by 29
renewing a commitment to lend a helping hand to neighbors in need; and 30

WHEREAS, since Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross more than 32
one hundred forty (140) years ago, generation after generation has stepped up 33
to deliver relief and care across the nation and around the world, bringing 34
out the best of humanity in times of crisis; and 35

WHEREAS, advancing this noble mission, the volunteers, blood and 1
platelet donors, and supporters who now give back through the American Red 2
Cross remain unwavering in their commitment to prevent and alleviate human 3
suffering in the face of today’s crises; and 4

WHEREAS, the generous contributions of these volunteers, donors, and 6
supporters shine a beacon of hope in people’s darkest hours, whether by 7
delivering shelter, food, and comfort during disasters, providing critical 8
blood donations for hospital patients, supporting service members, veterans, 9
and their families, saving lives with first aid, cardiopulmonary 10
resuscitation, automated external defibrillation, and other skills, or 11
delivering international aid and reconnecting loved ones separated by global 12
crises; and 13

WHEREAS, this work to uplift communities is made possible by those who 15
selflessly answer the call to help, whenever and wherever that needed, so the 16
month of March is recognized in honor of their remarkable service, and all 17
are asked to join in their commitment to care for one another, 18

NOW THEREFORE, 20
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY -FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 21
STATE OF ARKANSAS: 22

THAT the Senate recognize March 2025 as American Red Cross Month and 24
support the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross. 25
