20	20	WHEREAS, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., is a historically African 18
21	21	American fraternity and was founded on Thursday, September 19, 1963, at 19
22	22	Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland; and 20

24	24	WHEREAS, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., is currently the fifth 22
25	25	largest Black Greek-letter fraternity with over seventy -five thousand 23
26	26	(75,000) members worldwide; and 24

28	28	WHEREAS, today there are over three hundred fifty (350) undergraduate 26
29	29	and alumni chapters of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., located in forty (40) 27
30	30	states, the District of Columbia, the Bahamas, Colombia, South Korea, and 28
31	31	Japan; and 29

33	33	WHEREAS, the State of Arkansas currently has five (5) undergraduate 31
34	34	chapters of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., and two (2) alumni chapters; and 32

36	36	WHEREAS, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., holds membership in the 34
37	37	National Pan-Hellenic Council, an umbrella organization commonly referred to 35
38	38	as the "Divine Nine", which is composed of international historically African 36 SR38

41	41	American Greek-letter sororities and fraternities; and 1

43	43	WHEREAS, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., is in partnership with the 3
44	44	Brown & Gold Public Affairs Committee, focused on supporting public policy 4
45	45	and law that affirms, supports, and expands the citizenship rights of 5
46	46	fraternity members in accordance with the fraternity’s principles, and by 6
47	47	extension residents of the community; and 7

49	49	WHEREAS, members of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., are currently 9
50	50	serving or have served in public service in the great State of Arkansas, 10
51	51	including Brother Dr. D’Andre Jones, City Councilman, Fayetteville, District 11
52	52	1, Brother Jaylen Smith, Mayor of Earle, Arkansas, and Brother Lioneld 12
53	53	Jordan, former Mayor of Fayetteville, Arkansas, 13

56	56	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY -FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 16

59	59	THAT the Senate recognize March 13, 2025, as Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, 19
60	60	Inc., Day at the State Capitol. 20

62	62	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be 22
63	63	presented to the leadership of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., by the 23
64	64	Secretary of the Senate. 24
