TO CELEBRATE WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH DURING MARCH 2025, 9 
CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ON MARCH 8, 2025, 10 
AND RECOGNIZE THE EFFORTS OF THE WOMEN’S FOUNDATION 11 
OF ARKANSAS TO IMPROVE THE ECONOMIC MOBILITY OF WOMEN 12 
AND GIRLS IN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS. 13

TO CELEBRATE WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH 17 
DURING MARCH 2025 AND INTERNATIONAL 18 
WOMEN’S DAY ON MARCH 8, 2025. 19

 WHEREAS, the purpose of Women’s History Month is to recognize the 21 
importance of women in history and to increase awareness of women’s 22 
involvement in history; and 23 
 24 
 WHEREAS, March 8 is recognized annually worldwide as International 25 
Women's Day; and 26 
 27 
 WHEREAS, throughout the history of the United States, whether in the 28 
home, the workplace, the school, the courts, or during wartime, women have 29 
fought for themselves, their families, and all people of the United States; 30 
and 31 
 32 
 WHEREAS, women were particularly important in the establishment of 33 
early charitable, philanthropic, and cultural institutions in the United 34 
States; and 35

 WHEREAS, women have been and continue to be leaders in social change 1 
efforts and in the fields of business, science, government, math, art, 2 
literature, music, film, athletics, and more; and 3

 WHEREAS, women now represent approximately half of the workforce of the 5 
United States; and 6 
 7 
 WHEREAS, in 1987, a bipartisan group of United States Senators 8 
introduced the first joint resolution to pass the United States Congress 9 
designating Women’s History Month; and 10 
 11 
 WHEREAS, former President Ronald Reagan issued the first Women’s 12 
History Month Presidential Proclamation in 1987; and 13 
 14 
 WHEREAS, the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas is the only statewide 15 
organization focused solely on women and girls; and 16 
 17 
 WHEREAS, the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas is focused on improving the 18 
economic mobility of women and girls in Arkansas through collaboration and 19 
targeted philanthropy; and 20 
 21 
 WHEREAS, despite the advancements of women in the United States, much 22 
remains to be done to ensure that women realize their full economic 23 
potential; and 24 
 25 
 WHEREAS, the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas is making sure that every 26 
first for Arkansas women and girls is not the last and therefore only the 27 
beginning of many more; and 28 
 29 
 WHEREAS, in 1931, Hattie Caraway of Jonesboro became the first woman 30 
ever to serve in the United States Senate; and 31 
 32 
 WHEREAS, in 2022, Sarah Huckabee Sanders became the first woman ever to 33 
serve as the Governor of Arkansas; and 34 
 35 
 WHEREAS, all should continue to elevate and celebrate both the 36    	SR39

historical and future stories of women and girls in Arkansas, the United 1 
States, and around the world, 2

NOW THEREFORE, 4 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY -FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE 5 
STATE OF ARKANSAS: 6 
 7 
 THAT the Senate celebrate Women's History Month during March 2025, 8 
celebrate International Women's Day on March 8, 2025, and recognize the 9 
efforts of the Women's Foundation of Arkansas to improve the economic 10 
mobility of women and girls in the State of Arkansas. 11
