26	26	WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated is an international, not -for-profit 24
27	27	corporation established in 1946 by Margaret Rosell Hawkins and Sarah 25
28	28	Strickland Scott; and 26

30	30	WHEREAS, the membership of The Links, Incorporated consists of more 28
31	31	than seventeen thousand (17,000) professional women of African descent in two 29
32	32	hundred ninety-nine (299) chapters found in forty -one (41) states, the 30
33	33	District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United 31
34	34	Kingdom; and 32

36	36	WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated is one of the nation's oldest and 34
37	37	largest volunteer service organizations, made up of extraordinary women 35
38	38	committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic 36 SR8

43	43	WHEREAS, the chapters of The Links, Incorporated collectively know the 3
44	44	importance of their motto, "Our VOICE. Our VOTE. Our POWER."; and 4

46	46	WHEREAS, members of The Links, Incorporated are influential decision 6
47	47	makers, opinion leaders, and distinguished achievers; and 7

49	49	WHEREAS, the programs of The Links, Incorporated are implemented 9
50	50	through five (5) program facets: 10
51	51	(1) Services to youth; 11
52	52	(2) The arts; 12
53	53	(3) National trends and services; 13
54	54	(4) International trends and services; and 14
55	55	(5) Health and human services; and 15

57	57	WHEREAS, members of The Links, Incorporated contribute over one million 17
58	58	(1,000,000) service hours annually and have donated one -million-dollar grants 18
59	59	to six (6) organizations, including St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 19
60	60	the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, 20
61	61	and the UNCF; and 21

63	63	WHEREAS, the Arkansas chapters of The Links, Incorporated are made up 23
64	64	of women who continue to work hard to ensure that their communities are 24
65	65	successful through friendship and service; and 25

67	67	WHEREAS, the Links Legislative Day is sponsored by the Little Rock, 27
68	68	Pine Bluff, and Northwest Arkansas chapters of The Links, Incorporated; and 28

71	71	1956, the Pine Bluff chapter began in 1969, and the Northwest Arkansas 31

75	75	of The Links, Incorporated are focused on making a significant and 35

81	81	WHEREAS, the projects of the Little Rock chapter of The Links, 3

83	83	(1) A mentoring program at J.A. Fair K -8 Preparatory School; 5
84	84	(2) Health and wellness education and intervention programs 6
85	85	focusing on chronic kidney disease and maternal childbirth mortality in the 7
86	86	Black community; and 8
87	87	(3) Donating over two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) in 9
88	88	scholarships to female African American high school seniors and two hundred 10
89	89	thousand dollars ($200,000) to the four (4) historically Black colleges and 11
90	90	universities in Arkansas; and 12

92	92	WHEREAS, the projects of the Pine Bluff chapter of The Links, 14
93	93	Incorporated include: 15
94	94	(1) Bullying prevention and intervention strategies; 16
95	95	(2) Educating students about the vast career choices beyond the 17
96	96	United States with a goal of creating a future job pool of young minority 18
97	97	students focused on careers in international business and foreign affairs; 19

99	99	(3) Promoting health and wellness for youth through dental 21
100	100	hygiene; and 22

102	102	WHEREAS, the projects of the Northwest Arkansas chapter of The Links, 24
103	103	Incorporated include: 25
104	104	(1) Assisting the transition of young women who have aged out of 26
105	105	foster care; 27
106	106	(2) Assessing the needs of abused children of color and then 28
107	107	donating friendship dolls to support play therapy at a local child advocacy 29
108	108	center; and 30
109	109	(3) Hosting an art workshop to educate children through grade six 31
110	110	(6) on Black artists and works of art; and 32

112	112	WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated has identified four (4) priorities for 34

126	126	Legislative Day at the State Capitol, and recognize The Links, Incorporated 10
