Assigned to GOV FOR COMMITTEE ARIZONA STATE SENATE Fifty-Fifth Legislature, Second Regular Session FACT SHEET FOR H.B. 2494 voter registration events; posting Purpose Requires the Secretary of State (SOS) and each county recorder to post a list of any events the SOS' office or county recorder's office attends and provide voter registration services within 24 hours accordingly on the appropriate public websites. Requires the list to include the location, the title and all organizations affiliated with the event. Background A county recorder is responsible for supplying, at no cost, state voter registration forms to all federal, state, county and local government agencies, political parties and private organizations located within a county recorder’s jurisdiction that conduct voter registration activities. The SOS is responsible for supplying, at no cost, federal forms to all federal, state, county and local government agencies, political parties and private organizations that conduct voter registration activities (A.R.S. § 16-151). A county recorder may appoint deputy registrars to assist in distributing voter registration forms, to assist in registering voters and to accept completed registration forms. A county recorder is also responsible for supplying mail-in voter registration forms at public offices open to the public. A county recorder must attach or distribute, along with the voter registration form, information about the qualifications to register to vote, the deadlines to register to vote, penalties for false registration and locations where additional voter registration information may be obtained (A.R.S. § 16-131). There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation. Provisions 1. Requires the SOS and each county recorder to post a list of any events the SOS' office or county recorder's office attends and provides voter registration services within 24 hours. 2. Requires the list of events to: a) be posted on the SOS' or county recorder's public website; and b) include the location, title of the event and all organizations affiliated with the event. 3.
