An Act

 

amending title 15, chapter 2, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 15-249.01; repealing section 15-249.01, Arizona Revised Statutes; appropriating monies; relating to the department of education.

 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona: Section 1. Title 15, chapter 2, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 15-249.01, to read: START_STATUTE15-249.01. Arizona water conservation instruction fund; grants; requirements  A. The Arizona water conservation instruction fund is established consisting of legislative appropriations. Monies in the fund are continuously appropriated. Monies in the fund are exempt from the provisions of section 35-190 relating to lapsing of appropriations, except that monies remaining unencumbered or unexpended on June 30, 2030 revert to the state general fund. The department of education shall administer the fund and may use monies that are deposited in the fund for administrative costs incurred under this section. B. The department of education shall: 1. Establish application procedures for teachers to apply for grants from the fund to pay for the costs of attending a professional development training course that will prepare teachers to provide instruction in water conservation and drought management. 2. Subject to available monies, distribute grant monies from the fund to each teacher who successfully demonstrates that the professional development course for which the teacher is seeking a grant will prepare the teacher to provide instruction in water conservation and drought management. END_STATUTE Sec. 2. Delayed repeal Section 15-249.01, Arizona Revised Statutes, as added by this act, is repealed from and after December 31, 2030. Sec. 3. Appropriation; Arizona water conservation instruction fund; exemption A. The sum of $100,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2023-2024 to the Arizona water conservation instruction fund established by section 15-249.01, Arizona Revised Statutes, as added by this act. B. The appropriation made in subsection A of this section is exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations. 

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
