amending title 15, chapter 1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 15-120.05; relating to education.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona: Section 1. Title 15, chapter 1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 15-120.05, to read: START_STATUTE15-120.05. Armed services vocational aptitude battery examination; administration; opt out; costs A. Each school district and charter school that provides instruction to students in grade twelve shall administer the armed services vocational aptitude battery examination to all students in grade twelve. B. School counselors and academic advisors shall consider the individual results of the examination administered pursuant to subsection A of this section when providing information or advice to a student about postgraduation career and education opportunities. C. A student is exempt from taking the examination required pursuant to subsection A of this section if the student's parent opts the student out of the requirement in writing. D. The United States Department of Defense shall pay all costs related to the administration of the examination required pursuant to subsection A of this section. END_STATUTE Sec. 2. Intent The Legislature intends: 1. That school districts and charter schools in this state provide each high school student with resources and guidance to identify suitable career paths based on the student's aptitudes and interests, as indicated by the student's score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery examination. 2. To support high school students in making informed decisions about their future, whether in vocational fields, the military or other career paths. The administration of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery examination is aligned with the educational goals of equipping students with necessary skills and knowledge for their postsecondary education lives.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
