67	67		Whereas, the members of the Arizona State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) have volunteered their time, talents and resources in their communities since the organization of the State Society and its first chapter in April 1901; and Whereas, more than 3,000 Daughters in 42 chapters across Arizona have honored our nation's veterans by participating annually in Wreaths Across America, sponsoring a growing number of wreaths each year, with more than 2,500 sponsored in 2022; and Whereas, Arizona Daughters have also strongly supported Honor Flights by raising nearly $40,000 to fund the travel of veterans to Washington, D.C., as well as attending send-off and welcome home ceremonies; and Whereas, the Arizona State Society has supported the education of our state's children through grants to the Phoenix music program Rosie's House, which were used to purchase 49 instruments. Each year dozens of Arizona DAR members volunteer in local classrooms and provide lesson plans to local teachers; and Whereas, Arizona DAR chapters have enthusiastically supported the Native American community by donating monies to Indian Youth of America Summer Camp in Prescott and other summer programs, providing 2,047 masks and other pieces of personal protective equipment during the pandemic, donating financial resources and goods to tribes, schools and organizations across the state, including providing food and household items to the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System for distribution to homebound Hopi and Tewa Veterans and their families, participating in the annual Sunrise Memorial Service at Piestewa Peak honoring Lori Piestewa and other fallen military heroes and contributing monies to the San Xavier Mission Restoration Project; and Whereas, in addition to various ongoing community service and statewide efforts, the Arizona State Society also continues to support historic preservation efforts such as funding and dedicating a historical marker in Parker to honor and educate the public about the historic significance of Empire Flat, a steamboat landing on the lower Colorado River used as a transportation corridor from the Gold Rush in California between 1861 until the 1930s, placing an America 250 marker honoring Revolutionary War Patriots at Wesley Bolin Plaza in Phoenix and researching, designing and funding five interpretive panels honoring minority service members stationed at Fort Huachuca during World War II. Therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring: That the Members of the Legislature honor the members of the Arizona State Society Daughters of the American Revolution and State Regent Sallie Beraud Lovorn for their tireless commitment to historic preservation, education and patriotism in our nation and in the Grand Canyon State.
