(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE) Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona: Section 1. Title 41, chapter 12, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 41-1735, to read: START_STATUTE41-1735. Ballistic shield fund; definition A. The ballistic SHIELD fund is established consisting of legislative APPROPRIATIONS. Monies in the fund are CONTINUOUSLY appropriated and are exempt from the provisions of section 35-190 relating to lapsing of appropriations. The department shall administer the fund and shall distribute monies to law enforcement agencies in this state to purchase BALLISTIC SHIELDS capable of protecting against high-powered firearms. B. Law enforcement agencies in this state that RECEIVE monies pursuant to subsection A of this section shall provide a one-half match to the monies that are DISTRIBUTED. C. For the purposes of this section, "Law enforcement agencies": 1. Means county sheriffs' departments and municipal police departments. 2. Includes agencies that employ CERTIFIED peace officers in this state. END_STATUTE Sec. 2. Appropriation; ballistic shield fund; exemption A. The sum of $2,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2025-2026 to the ballistic shield fund established by section 41-1735, Arizona Revised Statutes, as added by this act. B. The appropriation made in subsection A of this section is exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations.
