LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 1495, as introduced, V. Manuel Perez. California Postsecondary Education Commission: workforce development. Existing law establishes the California Postsecondary Education Commission (CPEC) as the statewide postsecondary education coordinating and planning agency and provides for its functions and responsibilities. This bill would express the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to require the CPEC to establish an initiative to improve local workforce development systems' coordination and collaboration with the state's education system. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. (a) It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to require the California Postsecondary Education Commission to establish an initiative to improve local workforce development systems' coordination and collaboration with the state's education system, including elementary and secondary education institutions, the California Community Colleges, the California State University, the University of California, vocational education programs, and apprenticeship programs. (b) It is further the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to require the initiative described in subdivision (a) to focus on establishing new and stronger relationships for improving coordination, resource sharing, and common strategic planning.
