LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SCR 101, as introduced, Calderon. The Northern California Golf Association Foundation. This measure would recognize and support the Northern California Golf Association Foundation's contribution to the underserved youth of California. Fiscal committee: no. WHEREAS, The Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) Foundation has been supporting underserved and disadvantaged youth through golf since 1989 as the charitable arm of the NCGA; and WHEREAS, More than $2.5 million has been expended in northern California on behalf of disadvantaged youth across various communities, stretching from Fresno to San Luis Obispo to Sacramento and north to Humboldt County; and WHEREAS, In 2009 the NCGA Foundation funded scholarships and grants for youth programs, and subsidized 90,000 experiences on driving ranges and 60,000 rounds of golf for the young people of northern California; and WHEREAS, Tens of thousands of young people have now experienced significant increased access to confidence-building exercises, nutritional education, mentoring, recreational opportunities, life skills, and core-value training due, to affordable access to this sport that they can apply throughout their cities; and WHEREAS, The NCGA Foundation has now aggressively initiated the creation of new clinic programs designed to impact at-risk youth and underserved communities in partnership with community-based organizations; and WHEREAS, The sport of golf has become a beacon of light, with low-cost opportunities for tens of thousands of young Californians to excel both personally and professionally through the NCGA Foundation efforts of supporting a continuum that extends a wholesome, success-oriented life, through scholarships, internships, and career opportunities; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature of the State of California recognizes the NCGA Foundation's contribution to the underserved youth of California and supports its efforts in teaching life skills and encouraging a productive and healthy lifestyle through the game of golf; and be it further Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
