LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 1282, as introduced, Fletcher. Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Existing law provides for the administration of the state correctional system by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Under existing law, the secretary of the department and the legislative body of any county or city may enter into agreements for mutual police aid and authorize employees of state prisons and institutions to cooperate with county and city peace officers in connection with any existing emergency, as specified. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to these provisions. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 5004 of the Penal Code is amended to read: 5004. The  Director   Secretary of the Department  of Corrections  and Rehabilitation  and the legislative body of any county or city may enter into agreements for mutual police aid. Pursuant to  such   those  agreements the  director  secretary  may authorize employees of state prisons and institutions to cooperate, anywhere within the State, with county and city peace officers in connection with any existing emergency. While so employed the employees shall have all the benefits of  workmen's   workers'  compensation laws, retirement laws, and all other similar laws and for  such   those  purposes shall be deemed to be performing services in the course of their regular official duties.
