 BILL NUMBER: AB 1365INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Nielsen FEBRUARY 18, 2011 An act to add Section 2187.5 to the Elections Code, relating to voters. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 1365, as introduced, Nielsen. Voter registration: information sharing. Existing law requires a county elections official to maintain a voter registration index based upon the valid affidavits of registration for voters within the county. Existing law requires each county elections official to send to the Secretary of State, in a format described by the Secretary of State, a summary statement of the number of voters in the county, as specified. This bill would require a state agency, upon the request of the Secretary of State, to share with the Secretary of State information the agency is required to generate that will assist the Secretary of State in maintaining accurate lists of registered voters. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 2187.5 is added to the Elections Code, to read: 2187.5. A state agency, upon the request of the Secretary of State, shall share with the Secretary of State information the agency is required by law to generate that will assist the Secretary of State in maintaining accurate lists of registered voters. In dealing with information obtained pursuant to this section, the Secretary of State shall comply with any provision of law that restricts or prohibits public disclosure or distribution of the information.
