 BILL NUMBER: AB 1387INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Solorio FEBRUARY 18, 2011 An act to amend Section 271 of the Penal Code, relating to crimes. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 1387, as introduced, Solorio. Crimes: child abandonment. Existing law provides that every parent of any child under the age of 14 years, and every person to whom that child has been confided for nurture, or education, who deserts that child in any place whatever with intent to abandon that child, is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison or in the county jail not exceeding one year or by fine not exceeding $1,000 or by both that fine and imprisonment. This bill would increase the fine specified above to a fine not exceeding $1,500. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 271 of the Penal Code is amended to read: 271. Every parent of any child under the age of 14 years, and every person to whom  any such   that  child has been confided for nurture, or education, who deserts  such   that  child in any place whatever with intent to abandon  it   that child  , is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison or in the county jail not exceeding one year or by  a  fine not exceeding one thousand  dollars ($1,000)   five hundred dollars ($1,500)  or by both  that fine and imprisonment  .
