 BILL NUMBER: SB 169INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Gaines FEBRUARY 3, 2011 An act to repeal Section 736.5 of the Insurance Code, relating to insurers. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 169, as introduced, Gaines. Insurers: examination fees. Existing law authorizes the Insurance Commissioner, under specified circumstances, to examine the business and affairs of an insurer. That examination is required to be at the expense of the insurer, organization, or person examined by the commissioner, as specified. Existing law prohibits the revenue raised from the examination of insurers in the 1996-97 fiscal year from exceeding the examination fee revenue estimate for the 1996-97 Governor's Budget by more than $2,000,000. This bill would delete the provision relating to revenue raised during the 1996-97 fiscal year. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 736.5 of the Insurance Code is repealed.  736.5. The provisions of Section 736 notwithstanding, the revenue raised from the examination of insurers and other persons under this article in the 1996-97 fiscal year shall not exceed the examination fee revenue estimate for the 1996-97 Governor's Budget by more than two million dollars ($2,000,000).
