Existing law defines the term "handgun" for specified provisions of law to mean any pistol, revolver, a firearm capable of being concealed upon the person. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 16640 of the Penal Code is amended to read: 16640. (a) As used in this part, the term "handgun" means any pistol, revolver, or firearm capable of being concealed upon the person. (b) Nothing shall prevent a device defined as a "handgun" from also being found to be a short-barreled rifle or a short-barreled shotgun.
