BILL NUMBER: ACR 18INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Gorell FEBRUARY 13, 2013 Relative to the Seabees Memorial Highway. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST ACR 18, as introduced, Gorell. Seabees Memorial Highway. This measure would designate a portion of State Highway Route 1 in the County of Ventura as the Seabees Memorial Highway. The measure also would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing that special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs. Fiscal committee: yes. WHEREAS, The Seabees, the Combat Warfare Specialists of the United States Navy's Civil Engineer Corps, are tasked with providing expert engineering, planning, and construction missions, often under extreme pressure and while facing difficult obstacles; and WHEREAS, Ventura County, this state, and this country owe a great debt and gratitude to all veterans of this country; and WHEREAS, It is important to recognize the many accomplishments of the Seabees, from successes during World War II to today, and even in one of the most inhospitable regions on Earth, Antarctica; and WHEREAS, It is appropriate to honor all Seabees who have served in this country's Navy, both in war and in peacetime, and to pay tribute to the tremendous sacrifices the Seabees have made to maintain the strength, freedom, and independence of our country; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates that portion of State Highway Route 1 in the County of Ventura, from the milepost nearest to Point Mugu to South Rice Avenue in the City of Oxnard, as the Seabees Memorial Highway, in order to honor all Seabees who have served in the Navy of the United States; and be it further Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system, showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the author for appropriate distribution.
