Existing law authorizes the legislative body of a city to issue subpoenas requiring the attendance of witnesses or production of books or other documents for evidence or testimony in any action or proceeding pending before the legislative body. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 37104 of the Government Code is amended to read: 37104. The legislative body may issue  subpenas   subpoenas  requiring attendance of witnesses or production of books or other documents for evidence or testimony in any action or proceeding pending before it.
