BILL NUMBER: SR 55ENROLLED BILL TEXT ADOPTED IN SENATE JANUARY 28, 2016 ADOPTED IN ASSEMBLY JANUARY 14, 2016 INTRODUCED BY Senator Bates JANUARY 14, 2016 Relative to Drug Facts Week LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST WHEREAS, National Drug Facts Week is sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in accordance with other federal and private partner organizations to encourage teens to ask questions about drugs and drug abuse and receive scientifically based facts and answers in return; and WHEREAS, National Drug Facts Week is a celebration of the developing minds of teenagers and encourages them to ask questions about drugs and drug abuse and get scientifically based answers, without judgment or biased comment; and WHEREAS, The National Institute on Drug Abuse stimulates most of the world's research on drug abuse and addiction and can offer science as a key element of the national and community conversation about drugs; and WHEREAS, National Drug Facts Week celebrates the efforts of national and community organizations working with teens to encourage this science based conversation about drugs and drug abuse; and WHEREAS, Research shows that children whose parents talk to them about alcohol and other drugs are 50 percent less likely to use them than kids who do not have these important conversations at home; and WHEREAS, The State of California recognizes the importance of securing a safe and healthy future for our children and seeks to do so through education and awareness; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate recognizes the week of January 25 through January 31 as Drug Facts Week; and be it further Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
